What's your best trade to the indians?

I just sold 100 tobacco to the Cherokee capital for 3203 gold. I've had good results with tobacco in the past with other tribes too, don't know why they like the stuff so much. Anyway it looks like I'll be keeping the Cherokee around for a while yet.

Looting an Inca City for 20,000
cost: I dragoon.

It sounds impressive but looting is like killing the goose that lays the gold eggs. If you get the impressive result like dalgo's you could with some repeated trading get past this and your peace-quotient remains high. ;)

IIRC my best trading payoff was in the high 1000s. But this is quite profitable if the village is a neighbouring one and you can trade every two or so turns. I find the best commodity varies with time but this is a predictive cycle for a given village. I find the Iroquois profitable and rum, tobacco, tools, cloth are best.

Aztecs and Incas seem to have a high demand for trade goods and tools; they're profitiable to sell these to and buy silver from.

Inca capital has bought my tools for 2000+ many times. Anyway thats the best I've got. Over 3000 sounds great.

I can routinely get around 1500 for tobacco and up to about 2100 for tools, but that is the extent of it. I've been told that rum can go for EXTREEEEMEly high prices, but I have yet to find the natives who do that. :)

How many times did you haggle those poor Cherokees? (And did they charge outrageously for a counter-trade?)

In that game I was trading tobacco to the Cherokee, Iroquois and Aztec capitals (the capital cities seemed to give me the best deal) for outrageous prices. I had my tobacco planters working flat out. The best price I managed was 100 tobacco for 4123 to the Aztec. I was able to alternate the tobacco with trade goods and making a good profit on that too. And yes there were a lot of save/load games involved. The counter trades may have been a bit higher but I wan't interested in them.

Is there a way to determine what the Indians want or you have to come to the village every time to do that? (I usually have a piece of paper with lists, but after a while it becomes really annoying).

I'm a new Colonization player, so here's another question: does the game end when you win a war for independance? Or can you play on like in Civ? And is there a time limit to start the War for Independance or any time limit in general?

I do not know about any time limit since I've never reached it. But the SCORE ends when you win the war for independence, you may keep playing after that.

I also have to keep a list, wouldn't it be great to see the details of a village you've visited by just clicking on it - maybe in Colonization 2 !!!.

I write down who each village will train because I know I will need that later (by the way, although most villages will only train once the capitals train indefinately). For goods I just keep a list for those villages I actively trade with.
