Is this better than the search that comes with XP? I'm just interested in the desktop search aspect, not the internet search aspect ... since I already use google for internet search.

Cierdan, i'm sorry, but i've never heard of a "google desktop" search. Is it a download, freeware, etc? Or did it come with computer? I might be able to help if I get more info :)

It's fast but it has it limitations. it can only search for certian files unlike the built in windows search. But it comes with a widget like program called the sidebar which is rather cool.

It's a download from here

http://desktop.google.com/

@Marine, what files does it search and what files does it not search? Does it depend on which directory it is in? For example, would it search everything in My Documents?

Email
Chats
Web history
Media files
Text and other files
Word
Excel
PowerPoint
PDF
Contacts
Calendar
Tasks
Notes
Journal

It searches your entire HD.

Google Shearch is awesome, expecially with the side bar. It brings up results as you type. I find it much better then the windows one.

Thanks! I assume it searches also non-Microsoft Office files like those made with WordPerfect Office, etc? :)

Maybe. If it searches by file ext. and wordperfect shares the same one as Word....
