GOTM 11 results!

The results are already available since Wednesday.
It seems nobody wants to discuss them but I think it is a good tradition of the GOTM.

The results for Civ2 GOTM #11 are now available. Only 12 players submitted their saved games in GOTM #11, down from 26 players in GOTM #10. NOL, Lucky, and Smash are the medal winners. Congratulations!

I too want to congratulate NOL and everybody else.
His achievement is almost equal with Shadowdale´s effort in GOTM4.
But I really think he should participate in our discussion. Maybe Matrix could mail him to do that!

I noticed two things when reviewing the saves: I should have started WLTP growth earlier and so reached the peak of the GOTM score earlier.:crazyeyes

The other thing is about Smash´s saves. Correct me if I´m mistaken but didn´t we decide NOT to use the airfield bug. I really don´t want to change the results, Smash probably didn´t remember this issue. After all I beat him to second place.
Matrix, you should make a specific post or a notice in the rules about this issue!

Anyways, good games.I thought I had a decent game but should have cut it off earlier I spose.

I am working my ass off in 12 as it may be the last one.I just noticed the only thing I don't have is a green star.Too late now...I'll need at least 1 more gotm

I don't think the GOTM VII will be the last.

Anyway, we indeed decided not to use airfields. It's quite clearly not intended to be used this way. I've also emailed you about that. (I actually do my job too, Lucky. ) But I don't think it's really nescessary to remove you. The map isn't full of those. Unless Dimitris is coming with a formal complaint...

In any case: congratulations to all award winners.

okey dokey.I remember the poll or whatever but last time I looked it seemed it was destined to stay.Checking all the games and deciding which were legit and which wern't didn't seem feasible.

Don´t worry Smash! Nobody is accusing you and trying to get your awards! Unless somebody officially complains (not me ) Matrix isn´t changing anything.

Same with me. I didn´t really start WLTP growing than late in the 1600s or so. If I had started growing in the 1500s I might have finished 50 years earlier. My spaceship was ready in 1760 but my GOTM score kept growing. Oh well, it was still a fun game.


One other thing Matrix, can you persuade NOL to participate in this forum, he has an account after all.
Somebody who has 4 times the population in 1AD than Smash and me and reaches Shadowdale´s efforts should tell us some more of his tricks and tips!:enlighten

I simply can´t!
He hasn´t allowed anyone to get his mail address through this board. And he hasn´t enabled PM either.
But somehow he has to send the submission to you, so you should have his mail address!
And he is also from the Netherlands!

Well,I didn't look too deeply but NOL went Republic earlier and did a little celebrating.He doesn't have as many cities but bigger ones.Similiar to starlifter's starts.A smaller # of higher quality cities.He also has the Oracle and is making it work.Admittedly,I have completely abandoned the Oracle after MP,but the ai is not so eager for Theology and the Oracle can be effective.

I must ask after looking at some savegames in GOTM 11. Was it decided that the airbase was not allowed? I thoought it was not,

Because i became first in GOTM 11 (after 2 - 4th places)
i will respond to the request off sharing knowledge

Before i played any GOTM i only played Deity and nothing else
That is why i had a lot off difficulty playing the other levels
I also had to get used to the barbs.
My "secret" with deity is happynes from the start until the end
hanging gardens and the oracle are the most importand wonders to bild also temple's or there will be no growth.
(sorry about the english)
I must say i had a lot off luck in GOTM11 , but that is what it takes to get a high score.
The reason why i do not participate in the discussions is simple
I did not find my results that interesting to talk about them
However i did read the other comment's and learned a lot from them .
I also like playing better than reading
But in the future I will try to chat some more

No. The airbase was not suppose to be allowed in GOTM 11 or any future games. I'm assuming Matrix is going to let them slide for GOTM 11, but hopefully it will enforced in GOTM 12.
