Ok, we haven't had a spoiler for this September game yet, and the October game is now set and people may be well into that, so there may not be much to say.

I decided on this smallest possible map to play for conquest.

I did do quite a bit of map analysis beforehand, for the first time trying to find where a few huts would be, before deciding what to do.

So I knew of the nearby hut, and decided I would pop it with one settler before founding the capital with the other in range of the whales, at worst on the plains square that is initially visible.

There is the risk of an off-path tech, and the play might develop differently if that happened, but if I got a unit or money that would be very helpful, and I would aim for monarchy as soon as possible.

I was unsure what the second settler would then do. It might depend on the terrain found, but I had been impressed by the value of mining a hill early in a limited situation such as we had with the recent game on the World Map. If this map did look mountainous I would try keeping the settler for work.

As well as one continent, as mentioned in the game description, I thought it likely that there would be ocean, and had a longer term plan to look for the chance to build a port on ocean 1 to help reach far off parts of the map.

I did not like the starting location as city site, so I went south, looking for a better spot to settle. That took sime time, but it worked.

Like haleewud I decided to build my first city on the hills so I could access both the whale and the fish. So the first settler started the mine on the hills while the second founded the city.

So far in my game there has not been any restarts either despite restarts being on. This is hardly surprising as the game would not have put us on the north pole if it could find a suitable place for us. I suppose if you raze, as opposed to capture, a lot of cities you will see restarts.

Like others I am going for conquest. So far I have lost a lot more units to barbarians than all others combined.

It took a while after -1000 to complete the conquest, but not so long that the log wouldn't give away too much about ending date and score, which we don't do, at least before the deadline. I discovered one more tech, and ended before 1AD, with a score below 50. The barbarians helped, although I did lose both the NON horse units to them.
 
Impressive. A finish in BC years.

I managed to eliminate Russians fairly easily but the English and Chinese built city walls and I failed to check for it and thus lost my entire assault force. I have not battled Aztecs yet; I am leaving them for last. I am putting together a new force but I will not finish before +500.
 
My conquest very smoothly, with hardly any losses. Japanese were a very helpful ally as they conquered France, so it only took a dip and some money to get Paris in our hands. However, when I eventually took over the japanese cities, I did have a green respawn which was very surprising! There were no respawns until then!

Tried but could not finish before +1000. Elimination of Japanese was easy and Russians not too difficult. French were taken out early on by barbarians. In my first attempt, my invasion force were decimated at the gates of Beijing and London both of which had multiple units behind city walls. I took a better and larger force the second time around only to be met with a single defender. It took quite a while for my units to make it to Aztec territory. Once there, the Aztecs fell quickly despite having 3 units behind city walls. Much longer and drawn out than it should have been.
