Due to the extra expense on UN I wasn't able to build spaceship parts every turn, but none of the AI was a threat, neither for space race, nor for existence.
 
I am almost done with the game. But here is the next part of my log.

This was a pretty slow period. Movement is pretty slow and there aren't many shields for building stuff. I did build 1 trireme in -500. I took a caravan from Babylon around the spiral to Delhi. I probably should have taken a settler along to get an advanced outpost, but I didn't. When Republic was established, Babylon was only size 2 and supporting 2 settlers. This slowed the growth of Babylon for quite a period of time.

Since Inkerman and Major have already submitted and it is highly unlikely that I will be a contender for the green star I decided to post my end game log albeit with a spoiler button.

As usual there were end game hostilities but only by Vikings and Persians who separately attacked me and then allied against me. Indians, Romans, and Spanish remained peaceful and I never got a chance to make actual contact with Carthaginians. I reduced Vikings to two cities near the end and would have wiped them out if the game continued a few more turns.

Despite the limited amount of land this world was larger than I expected. Even in mid game I thought I would be expanding more than I actually did. In 1773, I built a city that finally fully covered the land to the Persian border. There were two half strips worth of wilderness past the other end of the Persian border. Then I had a few cities across the ocean from the Spanish. Near the end of that strip and on the Viking strip which is next to it, there was a huge barbarian uprising consisting of dozens of units. Some reached Aarhus, which I bribed away from Vikings, near the end. Past the Vikings I had a few cities across the ocean from Romans and that was it. The rest was wilderness and rival cities. My estimate is that some 40% of the world's land remained in wilderness at the end.

I finally got a computer to play GOTM games!
I decided on EC, with a super-aggressive start. I founded on the site and got to Monarchy in 3250. There was only one round of respawns, but my small civ made tracking them down slow. I finished well before 1000AD.

Initial plan was focused on:
Super early Monarchy
4 early cities for ease of wonders with Trade
2 early triremes - one for exploration before LH and one for transporting settlers in the early expansion
Conquest tech path with early side path to Trade
Try for LH and Marco by 500BC

After the fact I wonder if it would have been faster to take 10 turns in Republic in order to grow enough to get Navigation and Magellan.
 
I do not think anyone else is going for a (not so early) conquest, but in accordance with convention for the spoiler I won't post details.
I am absolutely delighted to be corrected by grigor, playing a slick EC. It makes my game's path of prioritising navigation look clumsy.

In circumstances like this it is legitimate to go back to your latest save and play again as long as there are no random events (huts and battles) or you manage to recreate them. Duke used to call this fat-fingering. In early game, where mistakes are costly and recreation is simple, I usually go back and in late game, where mistakes are not so costly and recreation is difficult, I ignore it

This fat fingering episode had a hut and was relatively late game so I chose not to go back.
