GOTM 35 Final Spoiler - Game submitted or abandoned

Weird game...
Settled on rice after spotting the gold. Only 2 cottages in London, run some hybrid SE/CE, most of the time in slavery-bureau-theo-HR. 2nd city near marble, CS slingshot there, around 1500. Founded two food rich coastal cities (north&east), east became a half-hearted GP farm. Built GLib in London due to time & hammer issues. Fifth and last city on the copper peninsula.

So far so good; My initial plan was a peaceful and quick Liberalism race, then early Redcoat domination. But Mansa didn't let me...

Mansa was quite upset by my Oracle culture, and attacked me in 150bc - despite sharing my religion. He isn't a real threat on Monarch, but it meant a major tech delay for the whole continent. With Asoka monopolist and Mansa at war, I had to research tons of techs you'd normally trade for. Frankly, *everything*, until my caravels reached the other continent. Furthermore, I couldn't run a caste GP farm, as I needed to whip granaries, courthouses and theatres in the conquered cities. In the first war I only took one city, followed by a short peace to build maces (btw Mansa the moron wanted to trade techs with me the very turn after getting peace). Then total war with Mansa and Asoka, taking the whole continent.

What surprised me most was the incredible tech speed of the other continent, which was completely buddhist and friendly with each other. I wasted several turns on Music (around 200AD), only to discover that Hatty must have gotten the artist some 500 years earlier. Winning the Liberalism race and taking Astro gave me some room to breathe, but not for long. I lost the Econ merchant to HC by some freaking 70 beakers. After that it was a close race, with Hatty and HC slowly getting the lead. I researched Econ, Nationalism, Rifling and Chemistry, then shut down and won shortly afterwards (conquered Wasjington first, then Hatty). In the end both HC and Hatty had all my techs plus Democracy, SciMethod and Cavalry.

AI defense was ridiculous though. Well, at least compared to deity :p... I probably should've stuck to maces only and bulbed Astro.

Domination victory in 1550 AD.
