GOTM 53 Results & Congratulations

A return to more traditional winning methods was the hallmark of GOTM 53: Early conquest victories dominating the leaderboard - in fact, the top 12 places went to conquest victories - symotompatic of a useful early UU.

In first place, Drazek was comfortably ahead. SpiffyKeen7744 was second, edging-out wardancer, despite the latter being a couple of turns faster.

Impressive victories in the medal zone, but my congratulations go mainly to Niklas, first to have a red score in the scoreboard.

I wasn't too sure to earn the 20k award, the final date is nothing exceptional, but my contenders did even worse so the note is mine

Well, yes. I think that the top score players should play predator, in order to give even to the outsiders a little chance to win a medal or an award. It seems to me that in the effort to grab medals some people prefer to earn all the advantages they can instead of accepting some handicaps and test their skills against them. But of course everyone is entitled to play the way they like, no problem with that.

Anyway, i'm just exerting the bragging rights due to those who choose to follow the noble red path, instead of the 'common' black. We're a sort of elite, after all. We like the challenge itself more than the end result

Finally, i'm 3 awards out of 7 to get the statue. Already in the roster: conquest, domination, 20k. Current goal: space. Still to do: diplo, moo, 100k.

You're joking... right? 19 turns is forever, not to mention the 32 turns I got beaten with. Just shows how far I have to go to get that conquest award.

Congratulations to the medal gang, and in particular to Drazek. His result is certainly no less impressive considering his playing time is among the least in the entire field (though archphoenix, 2h 43min! ). Though I must say it's a bit sad not to see any spoilers from him, I'd love to learn some of his techniques.

You have the three tough awards done now, i.e. the ones where the competition is usually the fiercest. I guess I'd better watch my back in the race for the next eptathlon.

@ Niklas, yes of course I was joking! Congrats on winning the predator conquest challenge. I went the conquest route again in Egypt and I see you have too so it will be interesting to see how we compared playing the same class (if we ever get another spoiler that is).

@Tricky, of course you are correct. I continue to get berrated by various people for not taking on the predator challenge (although I'm still playing Rome open).

I think I would have been feeling more than a little bit sheepish had I won the conquest award given that the turn difference probably roughly equated to the predator handicap.

That said, congrats to Drazek for blowing the rest of us out of the water. Truly awesome result.

Indeed it will be, I'm scared already . You could always start by writing a first spoiler, however...

Probably. My skills in science games are only decent. If you're going for the same goal then there's some serious challenge involved. It will be interesting to compare our respective progress in the 2nd spoiler.

It only just hit me that I have received 2nd, 4th, and 2nd place in the last three C/GOTMs that I have played. Of course, I missed a few in the middle, but even so I did not realize. It seems like just yesterday that I lost COTM8. I guess it has been a long time since I switched to open class and started trying to catch up with the best players in GOTM. In fact, it has been over a year! I guess it helps that the field is smaller (and top players like Aeson, SirPleb, Dynamic, Bradleyfeanor, A'AbarachAmadan, Darkness, WackenOpenAir, Ronald, Solenoozerec, Drazek, MiniMe, Kuningas, etc. have moved on). Perhaps I shall make the transition to a new class.

In any case, no fastest finish award for me this time. On top of that, I got silver thanks to a "high" Jason score. I really thought my Jason score would hurt me, as I never got out of Despotism, never built aqueducts, and had to abandon quite a few cities to keep them from being captured. I should download your save, Wardancer, to see what the difference is.
