I'm new to GOTM, so when do we turn in a save, when we lose/win, or at some point in the game, like when the spoiler comes out?:scan:

The turn after you lose/win ought to do it. There's a recent change that allows you to submit retired games too.

Plus, don't forget the Quick Start Challenge where you submit a save of your game at 1000BC.

DOn't submit intermediate saves. Just 1000 BC if you want to go for the Quick Start Challenge, and your final save. Please keep a few intermediate saves for key points in the game in case we need to ask for them for checking.

As Alan says - if you want to submit for the Quick Start Challenge, the submission page for that is here.

The main submission page (for the final saves) is here.

Is the QSC for whoever made the best starting moves up to 1000 BC?

EDIT: And also, I have been keeping my game as a turnlog, so in the spoiler, can I post my comments as a turnlog?

It attempts to compare the games after the first 80 moves to 1000 BC. I wouldn't go as far as to say it tells you who's were best.

FWIW, I consider it an interesting way to summarise the early effects of different playing styles. If the top player in teh QSC always ended up as the top player (of that group) in the end game, then I might believe it contained some absolute truth about the *best* way to play the first turns. But I don't think that's the case.

There have been volumes written on the subject - far too much to precis into a single post here. I recommend you Google the forums for 'QSC', and check out the related threads linked in civ-steve's GOTM Reference thread.

Of course! Check the results pages, there are always some losses submitted. And tell us all about it in the spoilers. There's something to be learned from every game - win or lose.

I downloaded the PTW Conquest class file...and it crashed sometime in the late BC period as I was planning to assault [Name of neighboring Civ redacted :-) ] with two stacks of archers. The crash message mentioned an ini file that was not found.

Does anybody have any idea what went wrong? I may download this and try to play it just for chuckles--it sure looked interesting and I was already having fun--but I won't submit it, of course, because the knowledge I have from the first 70 turns or so would give me an unfair advantage.

Are you sure you were playing the save in the correct version of Civ3? If you have autosave enabled (if not why not ???) do you have an autosave for the turn that crashed? If so you can try to continue. If it crashes again the exact error message would be useful to try to track down the problem. If you do recreate the error message, PM it and the save to me, as it may be a spoiler in itself.

Ainwood and AlanH, will check on the autosave and come back to you. Also, will try again with PTW if this issue isn't resolved. It's no big deal guys, if we can't fix it easily I'd rather just wait until the next COTM. I should be spending less time on this game and more time writing anyway.
