February 17 and no spoiler thread yet? Is everybody still playing around with GOTM 60 ? (I am).

I also started GOTM 61, but played in my usual reckless style, with almost no defenders in the first cities. Got nailed this time - a warrior from a boat took my capitol before I could blink. I had 3 other cities, but decided not to play on. :blush:

Can't say the Duke didn't warn us about the neighbors. But I had GOTM 50 in mind - similar warning IMO, but not so dangerous. Take care this time ! :)

I did not play GOTM 60. I made a lot of preliminary planning charts, but in the end it just reminded me of Lafayette every time I opened it up.

I have been playing GOTM 61 in a carefree manner. I avoided the initially angry AI without incident, other than buying one of their boats before I had learned Map Making (sweet!)

It's about 1300AD now and I am trying to get to Automobile by trading a lot.

I decided to finish with spaceship. Now it is 1500 AD, I finally know automobile, refrigiration, corporation - but I have no power for another research and trading. Everything goes too slow :mad:

:lol: I suppose I'll change to conquest. I am really corious how many restarts will happen.

Just finished this week-end. Conquest on 17xx. Could have been a lot faster but I counted 16 restarts, and some of those where in remote corners. I kept a log for the first time, and that's how my game looked like until 1AD:

3900 - Cardiff - built (whale + buffalo and river)- settlers;
3700 - Ceremonial Burial;
3300 - Alphabet + settler;
3050 - Kells - built;
2750 - Code of Lows;
2600 - another settler built;
2300 - Monarchy - instant swich;
1850 - another settler built;
1800 - Map Making;
1400 - Horse Backriding;
1150 - Armagh - built;
1000 - Polytheism;
900 - Cardiff - baracks;
875 - Kells - baracks, Caernafon - built on nearby island, descover persians on it , but have allready a phalancs as defense;
775 - Pottery;
750 - Cardiff - elephants - Lighthouse;
550 - Seafiring;
425 - Tree Forks - destroyed, Writing steal;
375 - Titangel - built;
350 - Caerphily - built;
300 - Slim Buttes - captured, Currency - steal;
225 - Trade;
175 - Cedar Creek - captured - Literacy - steal;
125 - Philosophy - steal;
25 - The Weel;
1 - Aarhus - incited revolt.

Have any tips for my EC? I usualy play Deithy, 7 civ and one continent maps, so my arhipelago skills aren't so good. And I have one big goal the whole game - I never lose a city, seldom trade with AI and prefer building a baracks first. I've read a lot of yours spoilers here and I've learned a lot, but still nead to improve.

My tip is MPE - you have conquered one civ so far, but you have to find five another, maybe more. Sharing maps can save you a lot of time - ocean is large.

MPE wasn't my goal in this one because I choose to play war all along seeing the AI "bad mood". I've buit it later and it helped me with the restarts. If I look back at my game it was a mistake, but I'll have to live with it :). My favorite stanting wonders were Colosus an HG, but I'll have to reconsider it. In this one I built LH first and it was quite a help. Still I saw in some of tactics used by some players here that they go to war with regular ellies. I consieder it a waste of time, but what do I know... Until some months ago I was still playing alone and thought I was the best because I beat the AI on deighty and got scores greater than 300%. God, how wrong was I ! But the good thing is that I am able to change :)

Ali - I also thought the defence and extra beaker from the river would pay off, and quickly. Duke's suggetion about the aggressive AI was actually part of my motivation.

Here is my log for the first two turns:

4000BC move W to see River System. Better Defence.
3950 Oh Boy - a Whale!

In this case, as I pointed out in the game thread, map analysis revealed next to nothing. So I ended up building Cardiff at the starting location. Having a whale at the first city site is such a huge advantage. Nothing else gives you 2 food, 2 shields, and 2 arrows.

I stayed at the original site and used the size-1 trick to make a Settler, which then found the whale. I think that is approx as good as moving to the whale first, and it is guaranteed. It does leave the first city empty for approx 13 extra turns.

After playing game 60 , game # 61 seemed dull ....
But I was wrong , turned to be into a very challenging Game.
Starting location was not ideal , only 9 visible tiles ..no clues about any Specials.
Option 1 ) Irrigate starting Location 61.7 and wait 5 turns
Option 2 ) Move at Random West - North or South and reveal 12 tiles
I decided to scout the area whitin 2 or 3 turns ,and settle in the best possible spot.
Moved south one tile 61.7 and a Buffalo was revealed at 63.9 , now I was able to see 14 tiles, plus the Buffalo help me figuere whre other seeds may be , but I needed more map information.
59.9- 60.10 ( grasslands ) are located to close to the Buffalo seeds are never that close, unless thay are located on longitud 0 ….
Also tile at 59.9 Reveals a River-Grassland
I calculated that the Buffalo could be :
a ) Part of a NW Pattern , then 61 .5 had to have a whale or a Fish..not the Case.
b) another special “ maybe “ had to be located at 65.13 ( 3 moves South )
c) since seeds are allways located on the same paralells, moving to 59.9 and Settle my first city on a river/Grassland was , out of the 3 options the best choice.
Also that gave me a few possibilities, I concluded that a seed was located at 59.11, 57.7 or 57.9.
Move left to 59.9 and a Whale was revealed. ( 57.9)

Having 2 Visible seeds Whale ( 57.9 ) and Buffalo ( 63.9 ) , made easy then to calculate the rest :
The Buffalo at 63.9 was the “ A “ seed on a NE Pattern..then substacting 16 from the first number ( 63-16= 47 ) , they are allways 8 tiles apart , East or West , 8 tiles = 16 first number
...therefore IF it’s a Seed at 63.9 , is one at 47.9 and one at 79.9 Etcetera
IF “ A “is at 47.9 , and the rest of the Pattern is located at B = 49.3 , C= 53.1 D= 59.3 , E=( The Visible Whale ) 57.9 , F=53.11 and G=51.7 and H = 55.5.
That also help located the closest seeds south, 62.16, and 68.18 therefore locating all the seeds in the Map.

3900 - Cardiff Built- 59.9
PhalanxAfter Unit was buit , while working on Settlers , noticed 2 triremes.
One trireme landed 2 Units on the island, and I got worry, Changed Settler to a Second Phalanx.
Persians Declared War , and attacked my lonely City.
Luckly the Phalanx hold on, the game could have been over.
Scouting the island found 2 specials at 55.5 and 59.3 as predicted
Decided to build the next 2 cities ( Kells and Carmathen ) on top of Buffalo's Tiles , I needed the Shields. to speed up Caravans.
Armagh was built at 55.3 because I knew it was a special ( unseen ) at 53.1 Giving Armagh 2 Specials Cardiff and Armagh will build Setllers...The rest Caravans...

Soon After AI , started working on Pyramids.

1 AD - Monarchy - 13 Techs
6 Cities on Main Island, and Science City Built on Next Island ( 54.10 ) Island 6
Units 1 Trireme- 7 Phalanxes - 1 Settler -
Armagh- Pyramids , Science City Colossus-
Kells almost finish with MP , Science City working on Copernicus

1000- Republic - 28 Techs- ( 6 White )
MP built soon after 1 ad. No AI civ willing to trade -
Every Civ has 3 to 6 more techs than I do.
Decided to Builtd Grat Library to catch up with Techs , I think it was a decisive move since I could have MP tracking what the AI was researching and avoiding the research.
GL in the following turns Gaves me Wheel , Horse Back , Engineering , Iron Works, Literacy , Pottery , Writing, Warrior Code , Construction and the Republic, plus a few more as the game goes…Feudalism , Polytheism , even Gunpowder ….

Will build all missing wanders as search for 2 " missing " cities.
4 out of 5 Babilonian cities taken . ( UR spared )
Trying to get to Space Flight to build Apollo and locate Missing Cities
One Coastal Viking City, Jorvik Located and Bribed.
After over 35 turns Searching for the Last Viking City- Noticed a Fortification.-
Diplomat finds Westness Inland City - ( 19.13 ) just 5 tiles from Vikingland !!
If I had used an Explorer and a Diplomat !!!! I could have finished the game many , many turns earlier !!

Live and learn !

Apollo - Last of 28 Wonder Built-
Figheters attack UR - Explorer Takes Last City

Units Lost- Entire Game- 18 -

Ali - I didn't like the starting positon so I decided to wonder around a bit for an improuved one. I've had no idea about the whale, just found it as Grigor said. The buffalo was revealed after a warrior explored the land much later.
URUWASHI - I also had a few triremes around my island, but they landed units on nearby islands. Lucky for me, because my two cities were defended only by warriors. Changed production to phalanx, and then used them to defend cities built on same nearby islands. The AI charge was usless. After that the AI never bothered me at all, just a few succesfull conteratacks.
BTW - I'm just wondering - could the AI had triremes from the start? They seam to sail out to soon. And also they seam to have more tehnologies than usual. Maybe was the game settings :)

:cry: My biggest surprise and mystake in GOTM history:

1630 - I have changed to Democracy, start to celebrate. Last nation were Aztecs with one city. I have parked on transport with spy ion front of their only city and start to work on score.:)

1660 -I have bribed last Aztek city and waited for the end of game - HAHAHAHA.:confused: :D
Nothing happened. I have consult minister of foreign affaires - five another nations contacted !!:mad:

OK< I finished UN sometime 1640 and forgot MPE was out. I have disband all ships, all armors. I am poor and without units.

====> 1695 So far I had 10 restarts. What is more interesting, five restarts were cities size 10, three city size 1, two nations do not have city yet. :confused:

After 1500 A.D. --- my prediction is Zero Restarts.

I thought this was the "rule" on restarts (but maybe it only applies to higher levels of play...) Golem - are you saying you had 10 restarts after 1500 AD ?

I have just finished - AD 1740. First civ I conquered around 1600 AD. I had totaly 14 (fourteen) restarts in my game. Several times I destroyed three civs in a year.

In the final part - summary - I wanted to write down the years of conquest of all civs, but the list ended in year 1700 on 11 th civ.

My theory about Civilixzations re-appearingand re-spawning...
In a Deity level...no CIVs will re-appear after 1450.
AS Emperor on 1500....
AS KIng in 1550 ..
But Am I right ?....Green may re-apperar, Zulu , Japanese, Babilonian whats is the rule ?
Thats why I never take a civ or destroy it...( I allways leave a city until 1600 or after depending on the game level like I did in mine )
I know one think for sure...as GREEN , lets sayZULU is wiped out, then will appear as Babilonian ..then Japanese..by will never be back to Zulu
How it works ??
I have no idea.....
Safe bet , like I do is to eliminate them all at once after a certain year. I do hate re-spawnings , if you are in DEmocracy is hard to wipe the out...
AnY ideas??
