    Assessment: China and Carthage have 3 cities each and China is the only civ building a wonder which is Colossus. Rome and the Azteki have but one city each. Available techs include: Pottery, Seafaring, Writing, Literacy, Warrior Code, Iron Working and the Wheel. Montezuma is researching Republic and i am inclined to leave him be to complete it (keeping his beaker cost as low as reasonably possible by not getting any extra techs in his hands except for possibly the bare minimum of 2 to keep myself from finding those techs in a hut).

    The exceedingly food-challenged desert landscape leads me to stay in Monarchy for a significant time to come anyway, primarily due to the reduced food cost for Settlers and secondarily for the free unit support. King level makes lots of cities in Monarchy possible before anarchists become an issue, so the dedication of resources for HG can be postponed. I want to pick up every available tech so that any future tech from huts w (from this moment forward) will not be wasted on techs that one or more civs already have. Since i am likely the military powerhouse, i plan to take advantage of this status by demanding tributes. But as an initial priority, first i want the tech and the maps. In preventing any possible Gold tribute demands against me, i will spend the current treasury of 67 to below 50 before approaching the 4 civs (edit: this has been spent down to 4).

    Actions:

    1. Icy Carths: Tributed them Map Making, Peace, traded for the two techs they had, Pottery and The Wheel, traded maps and they fled.
    2. Icy Chinese: Tributed a tech, Peace, traded for the one tech they had, Writing, gifted another tech then their in progres tech of Currency (they are now enthusiastic), traded maps, demanded Tribute and got 0.
    3. Uncooperative Romans: Tributed a tech, Peace, Traded for the three they had: Seafaring, Warrior Code, Iron Working, now Cordial, Traded Maps and they fled.
    4: Neutral Azteks: Did not tribute the tech they demanded (to keep their beaker count down), Peace, traded for Literacy. Held back on trading for their final tech of Polytheism until next turn since i want to be sure i am able to choose Republic and to otherwise have Poly as a backup. Receptive attitude and no map trade as yet.

    Summary: Techs increased from 12 > 19 with one additional tech available to receive (Poly) which will likely take place next turn. Received 3 of 4 maps and 0 of 1 attempted Tribute. Will likely get the Azteki map after they complete Republic. Updated techs in progress by color: Code of Laws, Republic, NONE, Warrior Code. Underscored techs indicate those i intend to gift asap.

Maintaining some 2 movement units that are in a position to uncover nearby additional black, but those which are distant from new exploration are being disbanded within cities. Completion of: 9th Settler, 1st Harbor. Built 43 and 44.
