I wonder if there is a sufficiently active quorum here for an attempt at a Game of the Month that has been so popular in Civ2. I think SMAC as a sequel-with-extensions to Civ2 would make an interesting candidate for GOTM if there are enough active players on the forum.

I would try, though i havent played SMAC or SMAX enough to work beyond citizen level (or whatever the easy level was called). Have had the game for many years now, but my schedule is a bit filled - nowadays I try to get some time to do c3c play....
It would make for a fun challenge however, and I always enjoy improving :)

I think it would be great fun, but i haven't either played it on very difficult levels. Furthermore there is the problem with SMAC and SMAC-X. The GOTM should be compatible with both. But if there is someone who has the time and interest to do these monthly games I would love to participate in them.

I must admit that I too haven't played SMAC for a while. Currently absorbed by the Civ2 GOTM. There's obviously a nucleus here - something for the near future perhaps, Lefty?

BTW I only have SMAC not SMAC-X.

SMAC.

I don't know if it would be possible, but as I've understood it GOTM for CIV 3 had "new" civilizations though you could play it with vanilla Civ III. This required though that you had downloaded the patch for Civ III to play like PTW and then you had to downloads mods and stuff to be able to play Civ III GOTM. This might be possible for AC. But on the other hand I'd rather see that you only have to download the savegame - which would be small enough to fit on a disk, because I haven't got Internet at home, and I don't have any place where I'd easily get access to a writing CD-station:(

I think this is an unnecessary complication - there are adequate factions even in SMAC (not to mention SMACX) that would provide stimulating challenges in a gotm. Witness the popularity of Civ2 gotm (where a simple *.sav could be used by both classic and MGE versions of Civ2) and SMAC/X is more challenging in this regard with the given differences in the strengths and weaknesses of a given faction.

Is there a chance to start in February? :hmm:

I doubt it as there are a few important basics to establish eg ground rules (which I feel should be similar to those in Civ2 ie no reloading and bans on obvious cheats like the perpetual parachute drop in SMAC), So a concensus on this would be needed and discussion canvassed here.

So far even the version to use would need to be agreed on and the response to date seems split 4:4.

What do people think? I'd think that one needs at least 6 or so to make sure there are enough takers for each gotm.
