:help:

1) Link to where I sign-up or download the next GOTM: August (I understand the current is still July, but I'm not sure if I would finish in 10 days if I were to start that one now).

2) Email address of where I would send the saved game to.

3) What do I save it as? (example - Sourboy Space Loss 2003?).

4) Anything else I should know.

thx

Watch this forum, in just a few days the speculation thread will start, and then a few days before the end of the month the game announcement will come out. The announcement will link the setup files. The save game itself will not be available until Aug 1.

2) Email address of where I would send the saved game to.

See this thread for information on how to submit it.

Make sure the name starts with your CFC username, capitalization and punctuation intact. If it were possible to make this flash and ring bells, I would make it do that. [to borrow a well-known phrase ;)]

4) Anything else I should know.

Above all else, have fun! And welcome to the GOTM! :D

What is all this versions talk about? I know there's a PC/Mac and patch version - but is there a gameplay version too?

Yes-there are 3 difficulty levels of play for each version (Mac, CivIII 1.29, PTW 1.21)

Conquest-an easier level for the less experienced players, with some nice bonuses.

Open-"normal" mode.

Predator-For the elite... those who want to try to survive being preyed upon. :P Special challenges, higher difficulty level, etc.

Is there a separate ranking system for each (conquest, open, predator), or is there just a point bonus for the harder levels of play?

Open is the normal game. "Conquest" has a few bonuses for easier starts (treasure chests you can disband for extra shields, maybe extra units too). Predator is supposed to be the hardest.

Conquest players have a reduced score (15% I think) but Preds don't get a bonus for a tougher game.

Everybody needs the install - files for extra civs and resouces - but the save start positions are different for each level.

A good place to start is to make sure you Civ or PTW is patched to latest versions (1.29 for Civ3, 1.21 I think for PTW).

Don't be afraid to download the current game - even if you don't finish, you'll have less to download for the next one. Plus you'll be more confident for when you start on the first one you intend to submit.

Oh yes, us 1.29 players have a lot of extras added for PTW compatibility (Stock Exchanges, ports of Entry, Intenet Wonder etc).

Like the guy said, download and Enjoy! Expect to learn lots - I have in just 4 games! The install is automatic too now - but have a pen handy for noting the addresses for the save.

ok, I was told to look for the GOTM in the forums here, but I can't find it. Is it posted consistently on a particular webpage? I would like to try it out (who knows, maybe I could finish in a few days).

If I install these mods or whatever, that the GOTM uses, does it overwrite my standard files and be used for all new civ games OR will they only show up in the saved GOTM games?

If you are going to play PTW it will add the necessary files and they will only be accessed while playing GOTM21. Your other games will not be any different.

It will not overwrite anything but will install new graphics for units, resources and leaderheads. Has a seperate Scenario file with the text for the pediaicons and the necessary art for the GOTM Resources. If you have any specific questions I suggest you PM cracker directly.

Enjoy

Are you using PTW, or 1.29f?

PTW installs the mods as a scenario, so only affects GOTM.

I believe1.29f would modify other games as well, but hopefully will revert back to the old files when you uninstall (this month uses an install program rather than requiring manual copying of files).

It doesn't affect normal games - BUT you do need to swap 2 resouce files around between normal and GOTM games. It's not a big hassle, and it doesn't cause a crash if you don't - just resouces get muddled between the 2 types.

So, if you start a GOTM and the resources look wrong, or a normal game and the resources look wrong, just save, quit, swap the files, and you can get back to where you were. Not a major hassle to swap 2 files for 2 other files.

Oh yes, GOTM games don't show on your high score table.

Cracker has said a .BIC file will be made avaiable soon to let people use the GOTM civs in their own games - I'm looking forward to that.

EDIT: I'm using Civ3 1.29 and can play normal games as well as GOTMs without a problem.
