Thank you, Matrix!

World size small OCN = 14.

Is the manual correct on these points?

Japanese=Religeous and Militaristic

Note: Japanese is the only Religeous civ and so should have a cultural advantage (temples...).

Note: Three others are militaristic, Rome, Germany and Persia.

Special Unit = samarai (5/3/2) so possible golden age in Medieval Times. (and no early gl for non-aggressive types).

Small map should encourage early finish for high score, as opposed to 2050 milked games, so...let's rock!

Greg

China is industrious/militaristic
France is commercial/industrious
Rome is commercial/militaristic
Persia is industrious/scientific, not militaristic
Germany is militaristic/scientific

Notice that there are NO expansionist civs.

Start position looks good... hope there is some freshwater nearby.

Edit: Aslo, Japan starts with The Wheel instead of Warrior Code

So the manual is wrong again? What is a good source for accurate info on these CIV Qualities?

By the way, IMHO start position s*cked. I have already disqualified myself on submitting this GOTM by reloading at 2500BC. Too bad, as my current game (800BC) now has half a chance. This is my second game on a small map, first was this months' SDC so I don't feel too bad about being VERY confused.

If I had known that China was Militaristic instead of Industrious/Scientific, I am sure I wouldn't have attacked them early on...

Good luck.

Greg

Samurai 5/3/2? I thought it was 4/4/2, when did this get changed?

me too. Have never played as the japanese and didn't get to see the summurai!

Silly me, again I was depending on the manual for accurate information. Page 203 lists the samurai as 5/3/2.

Is there a single document somewhere listing all the mistakes in the manual?

Here is a document that I use rather than the manual. It is really very good!

Arrr, mateys. Ya never know if the GOTM is up to snuff before you try it, but this one looks promising. A challenging difficulty level. No Russia- I was getting tired of looking at that doughy face. No respawning-good. I had a game where the last civ respawned in 1240 AD, was destroyed, leaving me as the only civ for 2 turns going what the...?... then respawned Again! The respawn seems a little screwy, but at least they refused to negotiate while they didn't exist. And there's some wheat and dyes to get my fledgling Japanese off on the right foot. It looks good1

I lost.

Lost the September GOTM, on September 1st, in my first half hour of playing.

I'm steadfastly insisting that it was just bad luck. A few hit points here or there makes a lot of difference in the earliest turns. It's luck, not, for example, that I suck like raw sewage.

Now what will I doooooo?

You could write up you game in the spoiler thread. This would make a change from the "success" posts as most of us are not elite players and could learn from your experience. You may also gain some tips.

I recommend submiting your game to provide a more complete set of stats for Matrix to work with.

Hope you have better luck with the next game:D

yes, ipris and Phillip are right. It's certainly not a success story, but one that should be told (if only for therapeutic reasons!) I think my final score was somewhere in the range of 2. No, it was at least in the tens, maybe a hundred.

and ipris, I can't play again, not even for fun, 'cause it's just not the same when you've seen the area around you already. I would know where to go, and the fog of war would be a farce.

Melinder,

Well, I did restart and I'm glad I did. I ended up destroying the Chinese, and did my first ever Palace move so that it is now in Beijing.

I then proceeded to push back the French, so that at 800AD they have only three cities left on my island, and I'm in Democracy.

So, I have learned a lot by replaying this game. Also, game #2 of the Super Diety Challenge hadn't been posted yet, so what else was I going to do....

Good Luck,

Greg

ps. or you can always replay as a one city challenge(OCC).

My first attempt at one of these GOTM. Never played emporer or japanese before. I know it's already an old map but I can't find the October one.

I was amazed at one point when I didn't want peace with China so told them to give me all their tech, gold and a city. They DID..haha.

I think the way to play this one is definitely without honour. Make deals then break them. Silly Chinese thought I said peace when I said p*** off...

good fun
