Technically this Poll and Discussion would also be viewed as a spoiler for Gotm18-Celts - If you have not already virtually completed you Gotm18 game and still plan to submit then you should get that requirement out of the way before viewing this poll or participating in this discussion.

--------------------------

Here is your chance to acknowledge those players who gave great advice in the pregame discussion thread for Gotm18-Celts.

NOTE: This poll is multi-choice and you could vote for every nominee if that was your choice.

Everyone who participated in the pregame discussions by asking questions or posting their thoughts deserves some special thanks from all the players in the GOTM community because these types of participation elements help to make people feel included and also to set a more consistent and productive tone for the games.

The links in the nominations below will take you to some of the key posts, but you may want to browse through the thread to pick up the broader scope of the discussions including comments and interpretations by other players in response to the original posts by teh nominees.

The nominees are (in alphabetical order):

Borealis
Discussion of the early worker -vs- settler -vs- granary.

Moonsinger
Click here to view Moonsinger's First instincts and second thoughts. Comments on barbarians and victory strategy as well as using the Celtic UU.

Peanut
Click here to view the saga of Brennus MacBrennus.

RufRydyr
Click here to view RufRydyr's first comments and general game elements. Then view his comments on his perspective of land bridges and chokepoints.

Shillen
Began a discussion of the Celtic UU and research decisions. More comments on the UU and wonders and barbarians.

Singularity
Beginning of a discussion on visually assessing the surrounding terrain and other discussion posts.

SirPleb
Opening strategy comments on tech pace and game impact and comments on position in the world and wonders.

Ted Jackson
More pregame terrain assessment and a detailed mockup map analysis that covers a sequence of many posts with images.

Xevious
Pregame map analysis and graphics.

Hopefully I have not missed any of the major points of advice that were shared in the pregame discussion, but if you feel that I did then please post a comment to this thread that quotes and acknowledges any important points made by indivduals that I may have missed.

REMEMBER that you CAN VOTE FOR MORE THAN ONE CHOICE in the poll.

Cracker:

The "map analysis" link for Xevious links to one of Shillen's posts.

Oops, fixed that. Thanks. - Cracker

Zagnut,

How about free Zagnut candies for whoever win this poll?;)

Why isn't my name on the list? Oh....I didn't advise.

I won't go into specifics, but I do appreciate the pregame strategerizing (no, not strategizing) and discussion. I do learn a lot, although you probably won't see much of it implemented in this GOTM since my entire game was rushed (as is this post). Keep up the good work!

(PS - My game is "virtually complete" and I'll submit tomorrow)

Come to think about it, my first instinct was right on target. If we move the settler NW, we would get the fish within the capital city limit. With a granary, we would have a nice settler factory going there.:) Unfortunately, I went with my second thought and ended up with only 6 little towns by 1000BC.

Well Peanut's post was hilarious.
I did not vote for Moonsinger or Sir Pleb because none of them follwoed their own advice !!!!!!!!!

My vote goes to Shillen, who made the right call by suggesting that the Gallic Swordsman would be enough to dominate the game. I ended up using Knights, too, but they were a bonus. Cavalry didn't arrive until after the fighting was over.

 AFAIK I did exactly what I talked about pregame: moved worker, settled at start, built granary but didn't research Pottery, slowed tech to keep GS's useful, saved cash for upgrades, did no research for a long time, did no wonder builds. Where do you think I went off track? :)

I voted for Borealis. I really think his advice is undervalued in the current poll.
And although Cracker's instructions are very helpful (and necessary) to set up the game, I think it might make more sense to include his "opening play sequences" website in the poll.
Probably that website would get a vote from everyone, so maybe it wouldn't be a fair choice... but then again it might inspire other people to do something similar, such as Babspeedy's "Deity Settlers".

Oops, my apologies to Borealis.:o
Borealis, are you single, rich, clever and good looking as well ? :) :)
Just kidding. Actually, it's good that this forum makes abstraction of all that, it's just that the english language falls short in that respect.

Edit : I've got the avatar and signature options switched off also.

It's okay- I realize that despite the princess avatar, my nick is not obviously female and so confusion may occur. ;)
Thanks for the vote- it's nice to know that I helped someone.

It's a tough call, and the forum is too busy to review the entire thread. I voted the big names in the game, which is a bit biased because I pay more attention to their posts in the first place.

The discussions are very interesting, but it is difficult to take advantage of it all. I am a bit to timid to try SirPleb's strategy - slow research, no wonders, but a horde of GS.

I decided to settle on the starting spot after all the discussion, but I never built a granary. I was a bit too concerned with barbs, but is was useful to have several warriors scouting. I went for a land-grab strategy, which was sucessful in getting resources and lux w/o war, but it obviously was not optimal. I wound up with Hannibal's cities too close, but I was not alone here.

I voted for SirPleb, 'cause I followed his advice and I've got a great game going, which I'm going to win.
Hopefully in time to submit, but it's gonna be close....

Before the next game starts, I am going to declare the winners of the Zagnut bars for providing glorious advice. They are:

SirPleb,

Moonsinger, and

Shillen.

Cracker will get an empty wrapper for providing advice with foreknowledge.

Thanks to all of your for providing such good advice to we mere mortals. PM me with your address and I will mail you your prize.

Wait a minute, you are serious about sending us the Zagnut bars. I can't believe that I actually won something for real.:) Thanks!:)

Congratulations to the zagnut winners! Don't worry about the proverbial landfill contaminants coming from NJ. Randolf is in a "nice" part of NJ.

My parents live in Randolph, NJ so if I ever win( ) you can hand it to them. But first, I must say somthing profound to make it on the list of candidates.
