I wanted to know/discuss what governement we are aiming for during the ancient age?
Repulic?
Monarcy?

I think republic is better, eve under war time you gain loads of gold per turn...

IMHO, it is about time for we discuss this, for we can set our research. As we already plan on going to lit, I'd say Republic would be the best choice for us.

I personally favor republic over monarchy. However: we must prepare for it. And we are not!

We need lots of income, because in republic we have to pay for our military and for happiness.

Thus all the tiles our citizens are working need roads.

Thus we need a lot of workers.

Thus we need granaries in Deux Riviers and Vandelay !!!

With war eminently on the horizon, I don't think that republic would be a good choice at this moment. We will be experiencing a large military buildup within the next 50 turns.

With the strength of Babylon right next door to us, I, like Plexus believe it's only a matter of time before we are at war. That leads me to believe that Monarchy would be our best bet. This would mean we would also need to choose the Polytheism > Monarchy research path which is currently achievable in 30 turns at max research. Republic is currently a minimum of 56 turns, assuming we research CoL and can trade for Philosophy.

Monarchy, we need to be preping for a military expansion.... though being ready seems to be a while down the road.....

IMHO you are completely missing the point. Republic is just as good as monarchy for fighting wars; war weariness is not an issue if you fight at least semi-professional.

The real question is whether we are commercially ready to go republic, and regrettably, we are not. Not yet?
