I think I have narrowed it down to the 6800gs card; however what’s the difference between different manufactures cards? I am in the uk so if you can either suggest a manufacture to avoid or to aim for that would be great, or even if you think the 6800gs isn’t the card for me please suggest something that I can get in the UK for around about £150. Thanks. I have looked at www.dabs.co.uk and www.ebuyer.com

which would be better, a msi or gigabyte card? only £2 differnce so which is better? is there even going to a differnce? i found them both on dabs in case you whant to look.

I think the primary difference between the msi card and the Gigabyte card is the name printed on the label. ;) They're both nvidia 6800gs cards.

Nvidia makes good cards. ATI makes good cards. They also both make some "bad" cards. I am sure someone more knowledgable about graphics cards will come along and explain why this card is or isn't the one you should buy. :)

6800 is pretty good, but if you want something great value for your money, try the 6600 GT.

i understand the ati and nvidia make good and bad cards , also that the diffence the manafactures can make is limited but i know some do make differences. yeah i agree that the 6600gt may me a better "bang for buck" but at the end of the day isnt the 6800gs rather better than the 6600? The last card i bought cost £30 and has lasted a good couple of years but this time i want quite a good card that will last for as long.

Usually the only differences between cards is the cooling solution used (and they're essentially identical most of the time), and whether or not a particular model has a "factory overclock" applied to it- meaning that it by default runs at a higher speed than the specs nVidia list for that particular model.

Personally I favor eVGA- quality cards, lifetime warranties.

unfortunatly eVGA is not an option as there is none of them for sale as far as i can see, it's only a "dabs value" gigabyte and msi cards are availible

Asus is also a good brand.... but if its just MSI or Gigabyte, i'd go with MSI

@handyandy, are you buying an AGP or PCI-E card? I'm sure I can find a 6800GS cheaper than those at dabs.

I would say the 6800GS is now better value than the 6600GT, especially if you are comparing it to the 128MB version of the 6600GT.

If you take a look at this page:

overclockers.co.uk

They have an own brand 6800GS for £135 if price is the most important factor for you. However, I would go with the XFX model at the bottom of the list as it is factory overclocked and is on special offer this week at just under £147 inc. VAT.

I'm not sure how much the delivery charge is though, but I would think it isn't much different from dabs.
