I agree with XP limit from fighting barbs, however we could consider this:
Unit can get 20 points. After that, unit would get more XP from fighting barbs but in small amounts. For example - 25% or 50% of XP it would have got if fighthing regular AI units.
This rule may apply also for GG points.
