Just a quick one to confirm something.

Emperor game and I'm trailing badly in Tech, all of them having researched all the mains techs and entered the industrial age.

Incas have GL in their capital which is sitting right next to my border. I attack, take their capital and GL and I also gain all the techs, right up to the end of the Middle Ages.

After getting education, I got the message that 'Education has made my GL obsolete but I kept getting all the techs after that anyways and entered the Industrial era myself.

Was the GL rebalanced in Conquests? is this a bug? Or am I missing something here...

You get all the techs had by more than 1 civ up until THE TURN you get education. Which means if you're trailing heavily you can completely catch up by capturing the GL. I don't think this effect is intentional.

GL is rendered obsolete by Education is it not? That's my question.

If I built it, I would stop getting techs after education. Since I captured it before I had education and everyone else was so far ahead, the game gave me all the Middle Age techs.

Actually Dexters there's a strat used by top notch players on the HoF Forum called the GL Elevator. You build the GL in a SECOND city (not your capital), preferably coastal city.

You then build the GL in it. Just before you are about to discover Education, you gift away the city with the GL preferably to some weak AI civ very far away from you. You then surround the city with your units so as to stop any other AI civ from capturing it.

You can let 20 or 30 turns go by, as you please, and then recapture the city with the GL. You must not know education when doing so. When you capture the city, the very next turn you'll learn Education, of course, but you will also learn all techs well beyond the Industrial Age. It isn't rare to get even reaplaceable parts with this strat.

By means of doing this it's as If you were artificially doubling the time span of use of the GL. Not will it only deliver all techs up to education, but well beyond that now. However, this strat is only meant for Sid or for milking purposes and it will hamper your learning curve of the game If you abuse it, but now you know it...

but you will also learn all techs well beyond the Industrial Age
This is not completely true in C3C (it works straightforward in VC3/PtW).
In C3C, situation is pretty odd:
1) You get all mandatory known by at least 2 Civs.
2) You get all optional techs of an era you complete (if you make it into IA, you get Free Artistry etc), except for rule #4.
3) You do not get the last optional tech in a branch if you do not complete an era (you do not make it into IA, then you won't get Navigation and Free Artistry).
4) You do not get optional techs that require only Education ever - in other words, you never get Music Theory.
