to get a great science boost city.
search a good location for that city
hills with gold or coastal aeras with fish
dont look for great ground for food
if you want a big population use workers to join your city
then in the surrounding area build road and railroads
(for the +1 commerce)
then build wonders
first build the colussus
then forbidden palace
then copernicus observatory
then newton university
then seti program
combined with library and university and research lab you will get a science boost
that is GOOD!
a axemple
let say that your city produces 20 gold normally
thx to colussus 40 gold(expire with flight)
you have a science rate of 50 procent so 20 gold is in science
library does it + 50 procent so
30 gold in science(theoraticly no more gold will be used so it is actually 20 gold but let uss say that its just like more money invested)
university+50 procent
so 30+15 45 gold
copurnicus wonder +100 procent
45+45 90 gold
newton university
+100 procent so90+90 180 gold
so that is a lot of moneyboost in science he?
180/20 9
so the science rate is 90 procent faster
good he?

now without colussus
and now with modern wonders

120+60 180 gold
50 procent research lab
180+180
duobles thx to seti program
360 gold
can you believe that!!!!!!!
for the price of 10 gold you get the science rate of 360 gold

R U sure on that, last I checked the bonuses of the wonders and improvements, only acted upon the base of the city, and not upon any other improvements....so, by my calculations....it would be 80 not 180 for the premodern improvements, and with modern it would be 110, not 360. now I might be alittle off on the premodern numbers, but the modern ones sound right. I think you are still thinking in the civ2 universe. Remember, this is a whole new world, the laws of physics have changed.
