i was just think of who i think were some of the greatest leaders of all time and thought id make a post on here i also realise that this is without a doubt somewhere in this area, just thought id liven it up (again?)

there is of course no defnite answers, but i would like to condemn you for your obvious eurocentric choices. j/k

anyhow, on my list of the top:

- Genghis Khan - ultimate conqueror
- Asoka - one of the nicest emperors ever
- Quang Truong - Vietnamese Emperor who nearly would've beat the crap out of China had he not died
- Alexander the Great - nice conquests
- Theodora - shes hot, and shes got brains.


But, i do object to some of the choices on the list...

Mao: i don't want to debate this.

Lenin: Similar condition to Mao, except there wasn't as many deaths

Franklin Roosevelt: Thuogh i wouldn't say hes horrible, i think he is sometimes overrated... but im not really sure.

This is really hard to judge. And do you mean just national (political) leaders or does this include spiritual leaders and military leaders as well?

Here's some of the best I can think of at this moment:

Genghis Khan - possibly the greatest conquerer in all history
Stalin - yes he was a mass murderer, but he was pretty successful overall as leader of the USSR. Before he came to power Russia was an economic backwater, its people were half-starving and largely illiterate. Stalin changed Russia from that to a great industrial and military superpower, and this is despite revolution, famines, international isolation, near-annihilation in World War II and Stalin's own abuse of power. And if anyone have ever gotten close to ruling the whole world, it was Stalin (by the time of his death he controlled roughly 2/5 of humanity, either directly or indirectly).
Akbar the Great - building and consolidating an empire in India when you belong to a minority group is not an easy task. He did it very successfully.
Franklin D. Roosevelt - started with a country demoralised and crippled by the Depression. By the time he was done USA had became a superpower, militarily, economically, technologically.
Asoka - agree with cybrx. He was one of the nicest (and most successful) Indian rulers (he wasn't always that way though, so he's the perfect role model for people who wanted to reform themselves).

Greatest leader of all time is tough. Sure, the Great Khan wins for greatest conquerer, but the greatest leader is another question altogether. I abstain for now.
