Recently bought Civ3, and after failing miserably with the Romans, (my all time fav. in civ2) I started playing the greeks, and by God, they are good. I play on a rather puny level (Monarch), shall be interesting to see how well they cope on higher levels.
One question though, how do you make sure you get the wonders? I find it very hard to produce them as fast as I did in civ2.

Yes, those hoplites are excellent in the early and middle game.

As regards to wonders, you can't treat Civ3 like Civ2. Like people have said, its a whole new game. Wonders do take you a long time in the beginning, and its reflective of real life, and how long it would take to build the pyramids or something like that.

Playing as an industrious civ might help, as would mining grasslands and having heaps fo workers about. They only cost gold, not food, they take off one population point. I do admit though, railroad doesnt come soon enough for me :(

Before I got the corruption curing patch I was a huge fan of the Greeks. Being commercial meant I could have a halfway decent sized empire without being ripped off by the towns around the fringe. And the science bonus is nice too :p

Hoplites work well especially for me...Nice detrerant against invasion. Gives you room to grow and climb the tech tree without having to run to bronze working right away.

With the patch though I'm having fun trying all the different nations. My high score so far is with the Aztec...much to my suprise! :king:
