You know I was just thinking, it would be a strange world under my Empire.

Sometimes its a strong values, independent state caste system, where only those with land and power vote.Strangely enough, because of the limited voting, voting is more valued, and those in power vote to keep their nation stronger. They pursue values most modern people would consider coarse, like hard work, the value of hard research, and strong industry. The people are divided into a ridged caste system, with the heartland states known for their amazing universities and centers of learning while the mountainous regions are heavily polluted and industrialized. Only the capitol has the urban sprawl and huge pointless office complexes common today, the rest of my empire has huge farm spreads, and the farmers are encouraged to grow and export food over any foreign product. In fact, foreign trade under the empire is strictly controlled and regulated.

About 50 years ago another nation tried to unite the world under a new order, a way to discuss the problems that arise, and settle differences without war. It would be a glorious future where horrible events of world war would never happen again. Then, one dark night, the Empire burned the assembly, its building, and most of the surrounding country to the ground. Several of the nation's allies were also destroyed or badly mauled in the process. When the dust settled the UN was just a mad dream, never to be realized.

The scary thing is, the Empire is not only huge, its also very very technically advanced, and has flexibility unmatched as far as gearing up and waging wars. Yes its people are angry they all don't have a vote, but numerous theaters and cheap housing help quell the complaining. Unlike its democratic opponents, the Empire does not need popular support to wage wars, and it can and does grind its foes down with its juggernaut might. Its even been known to embrace theocracy for a time if the struggle is particularly fierce.

Life is strange under the Empire.

I'm quite the pacifist in real life, so my friends were a bit shocked back in our Civ I days when my advice for getting conquered cities under control was "starve the bastards into submission".

The Archbishop of Canterbury looked to the east one morning, contemplating the situation God had placed him in. On the advice of the monarch seated in London, Canterbury had instructed his subordinates to spread the word of a Theocratic Democracy, where all land-owning Christian males could vote for a representative in a new 'thing' called Parliament. These Members of Parliament (or MPs as they would be known) would then group into 'parties', each representing a certain interest group. Finally, the 'party' with the most votes would choose a person to head the government, and a 'Cabinet' of advisors. However, the Cabinet must be high-ranking Church-members, and regardless of the party, the king must be chosen as the 'Prime Minister'; odd really.

Free Markets for everyone.

In my world you have the strange situation of a (soon to be) big Empire which is very good to its own citizens and quite tough to 'The Others' until they are assimilated.

The Empires I rule are generally 1st to go out of Slavery into Cast System, and again first to go into Emancipation.

The civillians in my country have acces to all resources or will have.

'The Others' less and less overtime altough I'll give them some Hit Singles or movies back.

Just like in the real do Haves get more to have, and the Have-nots less and less.

But hey! If 'I' don't do it, 'They' will...

What's life like presently under my Empire...

The world is a vast continent divided between the Hindu West and the various heretics of the East. Rome and India control the West. The central buffer state of Germany is a protectorate of the West. The Inca to the Southwest are a vast disappointment. Greece is the main aggressor in the East having disposed of Spain and England. France is a reclusive toady of Greece while the Great Enigmatic Kahn has remains in his furious seclusion. Mali while open to talk with the West remains in the sphere of the East.

The Grand Hindu Alliance of Rome and India has allowed the citizens of both countries prosperity and relative peace for generations. The forward bases in Germany proved useful in battling back Buddho-Greek aggression. In fact the Western half of the continent is a metropolitan wonderland with vibrant albeit dirty cities. There has been some mutterings from the great unwashed but the choice between watching the games or going to jail has silenced their displeasure.

News of the pacification of the Inca in the South are bringing the fruits of the wonders of the Inca to Glorious Rome. Aye it is sad that even though the Inca converted to Hinduism they never truly felt a part of the West and kept strong ties to the Greeks. Every day seems to bring news of another glorious victory in the South. It is strange though the Mansu Masa has declared war as well. Probably some ancient offense from Capac's Jewish days.

On the homefront what Rome lacks in technology it makes up in culture. All citizens live in the largesse of the empire. Business leaders after being heard before the House of Lords have agreed to give up their strict control of trade and have allowed some trade with the outside world under the watchful eyes of the Holy State.

On occasion there is some grumbling from the military about the lack of funding for military upgrades. It has been explained to them time and again about the need for research and cultural spending but they never seem to understand the amount of money which has been spent on vast numbers of military currently in service. On the other hand many citizens enjoy their quaint antiquated defenders. It is a source of great pride to be a part of the Corps of Regimented Longbowmen with over 300 years of loyal service.

Trouble with the East seems never ending though as the Greeks once again free from the punitive peace deal imposed upon them are making rumblings of another attempt to attack Germany. Even though Germany has foolishly given up Hinduism for Freedom of all religions it has been decided that Germany once again will be defended. One just needs to see the tombs of Isabella and Elizabeth to understand what consolidation means under Greek rule.

The history of the Sumerian Empire is a strange one. It is said the Empire started in the first days of man, when the first warriors of Ur launched an assault upon the wicked Napoleon and liberated fair Paris. The union of these city-states allowed them to quickly expand over a large area, much bigger than the nations that surrounded them. Yet for thousands of years Sumeria has been a land of peace, knowledge, and prosperity. Inexplicably, Gilgamesh has mandated that Hinduism be the religion of the empire, even though it has a minority presence, is a foreign creed, and no civil benefits have been associated with it. The people of Sumer enjoy a wide variety of freedoms, including freedom of speech, universal voting rights, and emancipation.

While Sumeria is loved by all it's citizens, it's position in the international community is a bit different. A thousand years ago Genghis Khan called Sumeria for aid, and the Vultures marched against the fiend Bismarck, liberating many cities. Two hundred years ago, the despicable coward Shaka launched an unexpected and unwarranted attack on Sumerian holdings, and Gilgamesh was forced to annihilate the man who had once been his best friend.

Now whispers swirl throughout the empire, of the possibilities of Sumeria's new "Rifleman" corps. Perhaps the Buddhist fool Bismarck should be dealt with once and for all. Genghis has proven he can not protect his people, should they not be brought into the fold? And what of Isabella and Ragnar, who fought with each other while their Hindu brethren fought and died against the Zulu and German menaces? Shouldn't they be held accountable?

A land of no unemployment, as my 5,000 year old Civilian Conservation Corps keeps improving my empire.

Taxes are high due to the upkeep, but there aren't any potholes, and no traffic jams!

No unemployment would be horrible and grossly hard to attain. It would also mean that you were, most likely, riddled with employment shortages.

ya, it was a bad joke jerrymander. In my current game I seem to have a surplus of useless workers who just go around building roads on every tile

I think having idle workers is fairly common. Usually after all the important improvements are made I just have my workers just build roads. Then when that is done they build their little desert resort fortress and hang out until its time for railroads and lumbermills.

I've always wondered what the psyche of the citizens living under a continents map would be.
There isn't really a New World frontier to expand into, but I guess the extreme difference of the cultures across the pond would be enough XD

18 years.

18 years since the world saw the beginning of the third World War. The great German empire is in a stalemate with the Greek and the American. Berlin lays in ruin but the rest of the empire is an incredible war machine.

The great dictator tries to abide the world.

There is no more room for reconciliation, both blocs go to their fullest.

Humanity has dissapeared in the flickering flare of the ICBMS.

How delightfully dystopic. :p

Games like Civ4 bring out the real dictater in us that we would hate to be in real life.

Or maybe, it`s what we want to be if we were real dictaters.

Me, I consider myself a benevolent dictater. i`m doing what`s best for the people and they must like it. If not, tough luck. Respect my authority or i`ll send in more troops and more Police!!

What I do like about Civ4 (with all the add-ons) is that you can really make your own personal vision of the world as you see fit. It`s even quite fun when I`m in the Modern era and the United nations wants everyone to vote for unversal suffrage and I say, "NO!" just to be difficult.

hehehe!

It's been 1,000 years since the wars started, 11 wars in the span of the last 1,000 years alone.

At first I was a Lord over a vibrant democracy but they came, the traitorous Vikings and French, they came with all their armies, with all their hate, what had I done wrong?

Life in the empire is hard, but we've survived and fought on, fought hard, we haven't given up, but even I can hear anger of the people, they are tired of seeing police on every street corner and needing a passport simply to drive to another city, but they don't understand that enemy spies are every where seeking to destroy them and this great country, but this will end, under the boots of my armies it will end, with a great flash it will end, as the brimstone cools it will end, even as my enemies beg there will be no mercy, they will be crushed under the treads of my tanks.

The Dictator of Dictators Wolf lends the great USSR in a Cold war against the USA which is going for 200 years.

The USSR is a atheist and where the country is lacking in culture it makes up in technology. Wolf is consider a benevolent Dictator.

After the new nationalistic-democratic furvor that swept through Greece converting the new regime into a representation-nationalist-slavery-mercantilist-free religon state, the hawks in the Parliament demanded that the Vikings be punished for their unprovoked invasion a thousand years earlier. Now the Vikings would face a massive army of grenadiers, musketmen, trebuchets, knights, and even macemen. Little do the Vikings know that the Greeks had developed cannons and they would be heading north to pummel Viking defenses shortly.

Just as the first Viking cities fell after the trebuchets breeched the walls the brave Greek knights charged the Viking grenadiers and longbows capturing the two Viking cities, the treacherous Germans declared war on Greece claiming that the Vikings were their new protectorate. The cowardly Vikings must have gone begging for help. The Germans had been friends and trading partners of the Greeks and this came as a big surprise. The one lonely German city on "Greek" soil protected by a single riflemen regiment in the southern tundra was quickly destroyed by a ferocious cannon barage. It would now be up to the Greek frigate navy to stop any attempt of a German invasion force from landing ashore.

Meanwhile, a large train of cannons is steadily moving north to capture the Viking capital which is under siege.

It has also been reported that the Hindu Aztecs and Christian Japanese are at war again.
