You know I was just thinking, it would be a strange world under my Empire.
Sometimes its a strong values, independent state caste system, where only those with land and power vote.Strangely enough, because of the limited voting, voting is more valued, and those in power vote to keep their nation stronger. They pursue values most modern people would consider coarse, like hard work, the value of hard research, and strong industry. The people are divided into a ridged caste system, with the heartland states known for their amazing universities and centers of learning while the mountainous regions are heavily polluted and industrialized. Only the capitol has the urban sprawl and huge pointless office complexes common today, the rest of my empire has huge farm spreads, and the farmers are encouraged to grow and export food over any foreign product. In fact, foreign trade under the empire is strictly controlled and regulated.
About 50 years ago another nation tried to unite the world under a new order, a way to discuss the problems that arise, and settle differences without war. It would be a glorious future where horrible events of world war would never happen again. Then, one dark night, the Empire burned the assembly, its building, and most of the surrounding country to the ground. Several of the nation's allies were also destroyed or badly mauled in the process. When the dust settled the UN was just a mad dream, never to be realized.
The scary thing is, the Empire is not only huge, its also very very technically advanced, and has flexibility unmatched as far as gearing up and waging wars. Yes its people are angry they all don't have a vote, but numerous theaters and cheap housing help quell the complaining. Unlike its democratic opponents, the Empire does not need popular support to wage wars, and it can and does grind its foes down with its juggernaut might. Its even been known to embrace theocracy for a time if the struggle is particularly fierce.
Life is strange under the Empire.
