Well the trailer everyone's been talking about is out now (official out now lol). Quite impressive looking!

Hopefully @Dale doesn't mind me quoting him elsewhere but he posted a great summary over at WePlayCiv of some good technical observations by Code Monkey...

Watched a game dev (Code Monkey) analyse the trailer and he's impressed with a number of dev related items:
• Looks like real-time hair physics, hasn't really existed before.
• Buildings look to have part/full interiors.
• People of all different shapes, sizes, colours.
• The water physics, and how the beaches look real. Even the light physics and refractions in the water in the pool.
• Ray traced reflections (the service station reflects in the puddle when the truck goes past and blocks it).
• He's pretty impressed with the volumetric lighting.
• The fog in the circling burnout scene is obviously volumetric fog with dynamic lighting, not just billboarding which would have been cheaper.
• He's hoping the evidence of character and car modding is actually employed in the game as well not just the trailer, which is creating entities from a huge pool of "bits". Creates unique looking entities.
• He points out the high quality and extreme details Rockstar have gone, even the glass pane in the prison door provides interesting effects, and many examples of depth of field throughout the trailer.
• Notes the autofocus evident in parts of the trailer, such as the mud covered girl approaching the camera, the background blurs out of focus slightly shifting the point of reference from the scene to the girl.
• The plane flying over the water, its exhaust plume is actually distorting the water. More evidence of the high quality and detailing.
• Again with detailing, when the guy falls on the table, the bottles shatter on the ground. Most games wouldn't bother doing that.
• As the red car does the drift past the camera the car's passing blows leaves and dust around.
• He's really impressed with the smoothness of the engine even when under extremely high load such as the long view of the beach/city. Apparently the trailer is the Xbox version.
• He's predicting March 2025 release, as Take-Two has already booked in $8 billion in revenue for 2025 (which ends March 2025). He figures they'll want the whole fiscal year 2026 to score big on GTA6 sales.

.

Yeah from a game developer POV, GTA6 looks like a dream.

I am looking forward to lashing out against any NPCs I see twerking.
