Is there a way to modify the .biq file or any other file so that each human player is guaranteed to start near a river on randomly generated maps?

I often play LAN mutiplayer games with 2 friends and since we play on tiny maps it sometimes takes many tries for the three of us to have a decent starting location (and decent location often rhymes with being near a river).

thanks in advance for your input.

I'm pretty sure thats impossible...

What you guys could do is ask someone to make maps for you, even starting positions or something. Ask them if they could place all starting locations on rivers and have favorable (if needed) land etc.

when it takes more than 10 mins to get an acceptable map for the 3 of us, I usually end up launching the map editor, generating a random map and attributing the existing starting locations with a nearby river to the first three players.
But it tends to remove some part of the discovery aspect for that map afterwards :/

So yeah if someone is willing to quickly make a few maps, even as I've described above, I would gladly use them (and perhaps other people in my case too!).

Also, a couple of months ago I made a map whose main characteristic is perfect symetry for the 3 human players. Each capital is the same number of tiles apart from the two other ones, each player as the same number of hills, bonus grasslands, forest, etc.
I simply use the "generate resources" and "generate goody huts" to make it a whole new map every time we play it.

There's also another AI player on the same island than the 3 human players, plus another island with two other AI players. Each human player needs to cross 5 (or 6, I don't remember) tiles of ocean to get there.

If there are people interested let me know and I'll post the map for download tonight when I'm home.

I had a question similar to this. I was looking for an assortment of random. yet balanced maps to use for PBEM, to ensure that no one started with a particularly crappy starting position, whether because they're unable to contact others, lacking iron and horses (missing one's okay, but lacking both is really bad) or simply stuck in the middle of jungle. Does anyone know if I can find some maps like this somewhere?

I have similar problem. We can make special thread, generating maps to each other, so no one of players in my game e.g will know the map, bcs u generated it for me
