Gypsy Kings - pitboss session (closed game)

I think I will soon be eliminated from this game also....I just lost another big stack....and still can't quite figure out why I keep losing so many battles at the odds I am.

I believe we were doomed when we lost Persepolis.....

About pitboss experience, I have already told dV I found out it doesn't suit my tastes - so if you can find me a replacement, go ahead.

I'm not 100% decided on SG9 - although I've been able to learn a lot from all of our teammates (not to speak of the respectable results we've been achieving) I have to confess I wasn't too thrilled with the level of interaction/commitment in the last iterations of GK's SGs. Maybe I'm also not well adapted to this format and should keep focused on my solo games.

Best regards and have fun all!
Wonder if the three XOTMs and pitboss games have put the SGOTM on the back burner? We all seem to have more Civ on our plates than when we started the GK back in SGOTM 2.

@ C63: Seems that a space race is just up your alley, so I hope we can persuade you to join us one more time. I should be able to reprise my role as the persistent questioner ... which hopefully helps to organize our thinking. I recall you thought that was valuable in SGOTM 03.

Probably no need for subs for England or for oyzar given the tactical realities, it would seem. Sounds like the game will be going heads up pretty soon ...

Boot with the wireless already attached?
dV

Then it crashes and restarts endlessly. The only way that has ever worked is to plug the wireless USB-stick in *after* booting. I plug it in when I need the internet on my game-PC, and as soon as I don't strictly need the internet, I take it out. That has worked for me for a long time.

I fancy that leaving the thing in when shutting windows down or starting it up is what has caused the problem. I just don't know how to reliably solve it. I think that if I could get it to not immediately try using the stick, but giving me the chance to tell it to connect, it wouldn't crash.

All in all I wasn't able to connect last night or this morning. Very frustrating.

Interesting ... I use a wireless USB connection, and it has no problem rebooting while plugged in ...

One thing I do recall is that the instructions were pretty adamant about installing the software included with the stick, and I think before the first plug in of the stick, rather than letting the windows default software become associated with the stick. Maybe a reinstall of the software for the stick (or an uninstall and reinstall) is in order?

Last resort: is there tech support you can call?

It's the Thomson Speedtouch 121g. Lots of people on the internet are reporting the problems that I'm having with it. One guy said that he used to work at a Thomson helpdesk, that it's a known bad driver from Thomson, but they don't do anything to correct it.

I'll see if I can buy a receiver from another brand today.

I forgot to end 1 of the turns...and now I can't log in. :(

civstats is down

I really need a lesson on Combat Mechanics.....I am really tired of losing complete stacks on 50% defensive terrain and not hardly scratching the offending units......

If I lose the next stack this game will be completely hopeless!

 (10 chars)
Well, Munro ... you might have to take that cheesy AP victory after all!  ;)

Is that a rhetorical statement? Or are you looking for some insights? Let's assume the latter ...

Assuming that the massacre in Zulu is one of the tiring events, one thing that aided my success was that stack of yours and oyzar's having quite a few mounted units and cats IIRC, who did not benefit from the defensive bonus (which was 75%, IIRC).

Then, I had about 8 cats to throw at 25 or so units in your stack. Assuming about 5 collat damage hits per cat, 40 hits to distribute across 25 units meant a good chance each unit got two rounds of collateral damage before my killers went into the fray.

Then, with a limited number of units benefitting from terrain defense, an attack plan of sacrificing units to damage those key defenders (not using the strongest unit first, or using a unit with a retreat chance) to "expose" the non-defensive units (now damaged) to attack prevents wasting the strongest units on the good defenders in futile attacks.

Finally, I had enough HA to do a lot of flanking attack damage to your cats, allowing lowly archers and chariots to finish them off.

You could check the recent combat log and see if any of these tactics contibuted to what I assume is a recent bad go on the battlefield.

Thanks...and yes! Oyzar was only interested in building offensive units,...and I was also to slow to add enough defense apparently. But the crux of it now is that it is starting to get "un-fun"! :(

I never even GOT to the battlefield!

 (Sorry for laughing ... ) Well, the battlefield must have come to you then ...

Now, if you want to talk about unfun ... just look at me in Terrible Twos ... ;)

You just have to keep saying ... "Today is a good day to die ... " and learn to enjoy it! ;)

I'll know for sure next turn if it is indeed a good day to die!

I know I'll never take defensive units for granted again. This is the part that really bothers me the most. I KNEW better 4-5 months ago, and I let Oyzar talk me into building Elephant after Elephant anyway. :(
