Hello, everybody
I’m new at this ´, and it might well be that it’s me that’s doing something wrong, but what ..?

I tried to run a 1992 version of Civilization on an old 68K Mac and ran into a very peculiar problem concerning the happiness chart. According to my manual, which is not the original one but seems to function quite well on the whole, the top row of the chart should show the happiness situation before any improving factors are taken into account. The second row then should show the effect of luxuries, the third row that of temples etc., the fourth row that of martial law and the fifth row that of Wonders of the World.
Now, on my computer, although in the right part of the chart the symbols for luxuries, temples and so forth are in the expected order from top to bottom there are no happy people at the bottom row but some at the top row and conversely. The situation of the bottom row, i.e. the least happy situation, is the one that is reflected in the population roster and seems to actually count. How can this be?

You're using a mac. There's probably small differences.

Dear trada,
I realize there may be small differences between Mac and PC versions, but this is not what I’m talking about at all. I’m claiming that the happiness chart seems to have been turned upside-down, with the effect that the whole idea gets all wrong and that for example it is difficult or maybe impossible to assign any specialists, since specialists are chosen from among content or happy people.
So thanks for your answer, but it was not very helpful, sorry.

Good idea, Judge Deadd. Attached is a screenshot, then. As you can see, the happiness situation seems to deteriorate for each row downwards, i.e. for each improving factor that is taken into account. The situation of the bottom row is the one reflected in the population roster at the top left.

That's the way everybody else's is. Angry people at the top and filtering down to what you get in the top-left.

Are you really sure about this, trada? I could have sworn that the red people at the top who look like they are cheering must be happy people and that the yellowish, shrunken creatures must be unhappy people. But I guess you are right. Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you too! :)

And yeah, the people on the right are angry and the left are happy.

Have a safe holiday.
