Hey, at least he initiated the dismantling the communist regime!

As one senior Russian politician said of him:
"He has a nice smile, but with teeth made of iron!"

:D

I don't want to piss in the pool of historical revisionism, but Gorbachev didn't want to dismantle The USSR, he merely wanted to reform it to make it viable. The collapse of The USSR was unintended on Gorbachev's part.

You peed in the pool!

I did not say if he intended it or not.
But his actions did help the process.

When a man yodels in the mountains, does he intend to start an avalanche?

'initiated the dismantling' seemed to indicate some sort of forethough on Gorbachev's part towards that end. It was slightly ambiguous. Sorry if it was otherwise.

unwittingly dismantled, is a better term that I should have used.

Anyway, happy birthday, Gorbi! Have a coke on me!

I think that the world might be moving to quickly nowadays to give Russia the time to become a pheonix once again.

There is certainly no forseeable catalyst such as World War II, nor no appearant great leader, so it is interesting to forecast the future of the Russians...

No potential great leader? What do you call Putin. He extremly popular, very intellenge, and is a hard worker. All signs of good leadership to me.

nah, eyebrows would clutter up that wierd thing he has on his head.

i've also made smilies for yasser arafat, saddam hussein, fidel castro, che guevara, ho chi minh, colin powell, bill clinton, and teddy roosevelt.
