Hello,

I've been trying my best to score a HV with Harappa, and I've got the infrastructure and trade routes down easy, but I'm apparently totally lost on how to grow my cities properly. Suppose the sweet spot for advice would be less a step-by-step guide and more some tips on how to grow faster, if nothing else (I didn't grow up with Civ 4, if that explains anything).

Hickman888 has also made a very helpful video guide, if you want someone to talk you through it (you can skip to the part about growing cities):

That guy has some cool videos, you should check them out.

A few things:
  • The Harappans unique power, "Positive :health: contributes to growth", kicks in when a city has at least one excess food coming in. So make sure your cities each have at least one extra :food: to activate that ability.
  • To make sure each of your cities have excess growth, don't be afraid to switch tiles between cities, and do it often. As a city grows large and unhappy:mad:, it can probably afford to lose some food tiles to another happy city with lower population, at least for a few turns, to make better use of it.
  • The higher production cities, once you've built the required buildings, start having them train military units for more happiness :) (once you've adopted Monarchy). Maybe an archer or two for a city, and the rest can be Militia
  • More cities = more production potential. The faster you can settle additional cities, the faster those new cities can train additional City Builders and Workers.
