For the life of me I can't figure out how to make it work. Playing with a nation spread out on a bunch of islands on an archipelago map. My capitol and one city on one island connected by a RR. And that's my only trade route. I have a city right next door - one square of coastal water separating it only! It has a harbor and no route. Same for all other cities on other islands, some separated by deeper water. I even built a harbor in my capitol, but no routes.

In the later game, my economy keeps crashing and I'm pretty sure that's effecting it, have had to stop making most buildings (all have up to and including stock exchange) and are producing gold....

btw....great game...absolutely LOVING the new style especially combat....armies come out and fight in the open now!

We're taking a look at this now, no worries, we'll get it sorted.

Check the civelopedia on Harbor.

Oh, wait, that'll just tell you to 'check the rules'.

Anyhow, the secret of harbors is that they need to connect to ANOTHER harbor. City A has a harbor, city B has a harbor, they are connected. If city B has a road to the capital (or is the capital) City A also does.

It is... halfway intuitive.

Yeah, there is definitely something buggy there.

I had all my trade routes hooked up with all my cities and then I built a couple of harbours. I then got a message that the trade routes didn't work anymore for those cities.

Yep Zechno, you are absolutely correct. I went back right after I posted and looked at every city and the one by my capitol didn't have one (was connected over land)...and I think that "broke the chain". Built it and they all connected. It is a bit strange and the Civlopedia didn't really explain it.
