Has Anyone Tried This Before?

I was just thinking - has anyone ever tried to make paradrops from aircraft carriers?

I've not tried this theory yet, but I was thinking what might happen if you were to stack a carrier, a paratrooper and a transport in the same ocean square. Then selecting the transport and ordering it unload the paratrooper (off the coast).

I reckon it would be cool if this does work. :)

No, paradropping cannot start from a ship. You can, however, make paradropping ships.

No... I thought you could only Para-Drop from cities.

But doesn't the rules thingy warn you to not do just that..
No, it warns you that what you change may mess up the game. If you want a paradropping ship, change the flag for the ship of your choice, et voila! It's raining battleships!

 I'm still not with you SODAK, what do you mean, please; about changing the flag of the ship. Thank you.[dance] [dance]

Werll, in Rules.TXT you can create your own units and change old ones, look at the binary code, that's the flag of the unit, a '1' in a certain position compared to the '0''s represents a certain flag, paradroping is one of these, as is carries aircraft etc.

To further expound on ren's response, open rules.txt. Scroll down to the part where units are listed. At the far right is a series of 16 zeros and ones. A one in a slot means that the attribute applies. Just above the units in a section explaining what each flag is. Change the "paradrop ability" (or whatever it's called) from 0 to 1, and that unit will be able to paradrop. Not all combinations work, but many do.

Some that don't work:
A land or air unit carrying any other unit (like a transport)
submarine attributes with a non-naval unit
paradropping planes
etc.

Other qualities can be changed with the other attributes, also describes in the section above the units. Before tinkering, remember to make a backup copy of the original rules.txt!
