Although i m not the CIV who gets screwed here, i still hate the fact that there are inland seas.

GG england, cant use ur navy now.
If u look closely at the minimap u can see that england cannot achieve a navy to conquer~

I am also fairly sure that the undiscovered parts on the west is just land.

The only way England can achieve its navy domination is, by settling on that middlestrip of land near the Incan city at the bottom left. Something tells me it wont.

Anyway deleted the save since i dont want an 'unfair' game

How do i avoid inland seas? what Map?

I hate when I am fooled by them, but I actually like them for the possible trade routes to other civs they can give, and you can use naval ranged units to make them better defensively as well.
As for maps, maybe something along the lines of Pangaea, any of the scrambled continents, or great plains.

Inland seas suck. At least you can use pretty easily protected internal naval trade routes to grow your cities, and frigates/galleases are nice defensively and even in limited offense if people have the courage to settle on your sea. You also don't need to worry about enemy navies at all, and for England specifically they can still use their longbows. There's also, well...

Yeah, inland seas are terrible. Especially for Venice. I saw a computer Venice on one once... They didn't do much that game.

I like them under one condition: there's a site where you can put a city down as a canal that leads out into the world. Once I ringed a sea with cities, one of which was the gateway out into the world.

The screen shot is nice. You have a pretty protected trade area you can use with two city states, inca and yourself. Now just go find the real sea and settle there!

i m not england. I m the nilfgaardian empire(aka poland) at the bottom. But u got a point, i can make England part of my empire :D
The funny part is that ENgland supposed to have one of the best navies, and their naval domination is @.@
On this map, i doubt they will survive for long lol.

England still has useful longbows, safe internal naval trade routes, and an extra spy. It's not like they can't work with this start, although its a shame their SOTL and naval UA are not very useful.

I agree. I had inland seas with England (I love navies!) and if I could'nt create a Gibraltar/Suez/Panama city I would quit.

guess for england the solutions would be

1. Join my empire
2. Get a settler and place it on that narrow strip of land to connect the ships out(eg canal)
3. Destroy the Incan city and build a new one on the land.

AI is too dumb to do this.

A TSL map of the world will not have that problem

Otherwise, I would choose a map which produces a larger number of landmasses e.g. small continents or large islands. Even a continents map might work if you choose the maximum number of continents.

Definitely stay away from pangea, terra or hemispheres.

Have you tried the Communitas map mod? I've been playing around with it, and like the results. I haven't seen an inland sea yet, however lots and lots of coast line.

i saw that before, but somehow my game crashed always at turn number 6, no matter what era i start

AI England never takes advantage of a good navy anyway. It makes no difference to give them a good coastal start or a bad one or a totally inland one like this. The AI can't move-and-fire frigates so AI England never gets any benefit from its 9-move SotL's.
