Nope, this is valid for the 8000 series of mobility chips. Nvidia used the wrong solder, and the things start to disintegrate after a year or so

This is one of the main offenders, yes. But it depends on your specific laptop model, behind that link is a list.

I just (yesterday, actually) had to replace a mini-tower (Shuttle) PC due to a FUBAR initially caused by one of the effected NVIDIA chips. However, this was not a store brand PC, but a custom build that contained the 8600 chip. Am I eligible for the class? I went to the site, but could only find a list of notebook models. if nobody happens to know here, I'll check with the lawyers.

Nope, it only refers to notebooks. Desktop chips are not affected.
