I'm having trouble setting up a wireless network. I'm using Linksys equipment with speedbooster. For both the router and adapter I installed the CD first as the instructions said and than I connected the equipment. Using Linksys's EasyLink Advisor I setup my router. When I used Linksys's Wireless Netword Monitor it stated there were no active networks. All the required lights were lit on the router. So I manually setup a profile using the addresses from my router. That didn't work.

One thing that is definitely wrong is the adapter card isn't lit. Occaisionally it'll light up and my computer will show a wireless connection, but it quickly goes out. Even when it shows a connection, it states that there is no internet connection available.

Just to be sure, does the passphrase have to be the same as the admin password?

I'm at a loss. I'm not sure what I did wrong and whatever it was, it apparently really screwed it up. Any thoughts or ideas on how to fix it? I already tried uninstalling the adapter and reinstalling it, but that didn't work. The weird part is the monitor doesn't even show my network as being available. I even set it on broadcast for a little while to see if that worked, but it didn't.

Are you using a dynamic or static IP address? Sometimes when going through a router having a dynamic IP address on either computer can result in network disconnections and general problems. I had some of the problems you describe some time back and setting my computers on the network to static IP's solved my problems.

What was the problem?

Let's call it one of those duh moments. There's one final step I wasn't doing. You have to push a blue button on the router to get it to start broadcasting your network. I kept hitting the green button on the router login page which would show the network as available for about five seconds, before disappearing. Now everything works fine.

And yes, I felt rather stupid at the time.
