Hawaiian Islands Scenario

The scenario allows you to play as an emerging civilization on Kauai, Oahu, Maui, or North or South Hawaii.

Most of the standard rules are retained, changes are mostly limited to names.

The map, including water depths, are fairly accurate, providing historical effects such as the relative isolation of Kauai.

v1.1 Changes
- Fixed a glitch that was preventing Kauai and Oaho civs from building most military units
- Added a few more goody huts to Kauai to offset the trade disadvantage from its initial isolation
- Added a few barbarian tribes

While you have a choice of five civilizations, it is perhaps most interesting to play as Kamehameha (as the North Hawaiians), the king who united most of the islands, or as Kaumualii of Kauai, using the deep channel separating it from the other islands to deter early military invasion.

the map looks good, ill download it in a min :rocket2:

Maybe when civ3 has a decent scenario editor you'll put an event in where the americans come and try to conquer you at a certain date?

Ahhh... good point. Kauai has a pretty good concentration of shields and rivers, so it has a bit of an advantage in developing solo. I suppose at higher difficulty levels this might not cut it though. I guess the other option is to keep trying to send galleys across the ocean until the make it to Oahu to establish communication.

Let me know if you've got any suggestions to improve the balance so Kauai is more playable at higher difficulty levels.

why dont jsut put more goody huts there, so that u would find more techs, just to get u balanced w/ teh otehres, what u think?

OK, fixed this up a bit. The first version had a glitch that prevented two of the civs (Kauai and Oahu) from building most military units. In addition to fixing that, I've also added a few more goody huts to Kauai as suggested, to help offset the trade disadvantage from its initial isolation.

Version 1.1 also adds a few barbarian camps. Let me know if there are any other issues with it.

dude, i played it as the south hawaii civ, and i didnt found any rivers! how can i have any irrigations, in other words, the fact taht u changed teh names of the civ to add realism was nice :)

just put some rivers, the scenario is great ^_^

Yeah, the river thing is a problem. I tried to stick by the actual geography, and Kauai has substantially bigger rivers than the other islands - the only "navigable" rivers in the state, I believe. Hawaii especially is pretty dry. Plus, since Kauai is pretty isolated and needs to develop initial on its own, it needs a little bit of an advantage. So, if you want rivers, I'd give it a try playing on Kauai.
Glad you're enjoying it otherwise!
