Anyone watchin this show? I've Downloaded 5 first eps and it looks absolutely stunning on 960x528 HD resolution. I must say I'm positively surprised. I though such an accurate account of life in late republican Rome would have been too much for a nation so plagued about Janets titty. Its wonderful to see an accurate description of Rome as it probably was, a filthy town full of opportunists, brothels, corrupt politicians and ancient rituals. Even the temples have colour on their marbels as opposed to the dull whiteness of Washington DC or any European capital. Who the **** came up with the idea that it was all supposed to be white anyway!?

The vulgarity particularly pleases me and I think that the HBO has captured the spirit of Rome splendidly. The actors are very, very convincing and the plot seems like something out of a history book :cute:

Overall a great show, just wondering why Caesars bisexual tendencies havent been exlored as of yet. Also no show about Rome can be truely satisfying without the actors acting in Latin.

Go Octavianus, show the *******s who the real citizen #1 is!

lol. I cannont vouch for how authentic it is but I have watched all the episodes that have aired, usually on-demand later after the intial airing. They might over play the sex bit just a tiny bit. I mean seriously there are some points where I think it is soft porn almost. But as it is a show I say it is as perfect as possible given that it is a show and its not in Latin with sub titles.

Hmmm.....they don't show it on HBO here in India. Does anyone know if they plan to air here too?

Its pretty awesoem; I've seen all of it so far

@Wilhelm- one is har dpressed to call bi sexualty a "tendency" with Caesar; we know of one male lover, and only one, and it wa sa relationship that didnt last a very long time; seems Caesar may have experimented with it, but found it lacking; considerign he was a man who enjoyed sex (he was the origional man whom "lock up your women!" was used for ;)) its not surprising he woudl have experimented with it.

I try to catch it on demand each week. Its definately entertaining. If its available, you should watch the commentary by the producer and historian for each episode (it gives a little thought into why the characters did what they did and some historical information about it).

they dont show such a commentary on HBO; but the plot and charicter of the actors is good enough that by the second episode, you get a real feel for the characters, and what motivates them.

It's a BBC co-production, so if you can get BBC you can see it when it's aired later this year.

Its going to be on BBC2 soon, just saw an advert for it. :)

The show's pretty good. History and tits don't often collide, but when they do its spectacular. My only quibble with the show is the battle scenes. In the episodes I've seen, they really don't show much and fight choreography is a little lacking. Maybe I've just gotten used to movies with 150 million dollar budgets (that usually don't leave anything for story or research). Rome's still good, though.

I know, with as much a$$ that everyone is getting, when did they find time to conquer the world?

only so much you can do with 60 extras dedicated to being soldiers :(

Right. But it is HBO, maybe they're saving a huge battle with scores of extras and CG soldiers for later in the series. We could find out by looking at the budget

From what I understand, they are spending a rediculous amount per episode for this series. They definately aren't saving any money for a battle scene later.

well, the civil war is over (I missed the goddamned last episode of the season, but I know it involved cleoptara, and the cirt of Caesarion- and yes, I knwo other assorted plot points deal with that, i dont want to spoil them for others ;)) so the main oppertunities for big battles are over except that HBO renwed the series, so it will take ahile, perhaps, but its distinctlly possible we will the rise of Octavian, and this means that the battle of Actium coudl be in our future; not quite seeing the 13th in battle array, but its somthing.
