Has anyone tried this game? Would you reccomend it? From the look of it, it looks great, beeing actually able to be any country in the world...

Try asking Flatlander Fox and Richard III who usually hang around the Diplomacy sub-forum.

I kindoff have it too, but can't be bothered with it ;)

I have it, and like it. I don't play it alot (there are just better games that I own right now*) but I'd reccomend it. Its interesting and fun to play.

* Don't think of this as an insult. My GameCube is calling me now. ;)

RIII and I have been playing several games MP and really enjoy the set piece battles that occur.

It's a great game, and playing as any country is interesting (If not a little dangerous at times.)

If interested in a MP game, PM me and perhaps we can set something up. :)

Yeah,

Just played a few years of a Russia (fox) vs. Germany (me) game tonight; our first real head-to-head. Previous games were played as allies of one sort or another.

Events so far, as of Winter 1940...

After a weak diplomatic start, I made up for it by annexing Austria, taking the Czechs and giving Slovakia to my ally Hungary after Munich, and then bringing Italy, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria into the Axis fold. I send a tank division to participate in the Spanish Civil War, taking several republican cities with this "Condor Legion" under Model's command.

FFox took Persia early, and managed to bring Romania into his commie alliance to check my Balkan push. I forgo attacking Poland. He launches a huge diplomatic effort and brings the leftists regime in Japan on board as his commie ally.

So, in August of 1940, I've had enough of his s***. Me and my allies attack Romania, creating a German-Soviet war. I send diversionary troops by sea into the Caucuses, where they distract Russian troops but achieve little. Meanwhile, two large German armored pincers quickly trap Zhukov's army and dozens of other Russo-Romanian divisions in a massive pocket: my armies (under Von Bock, Von Rundstedt, Kesselring and Von Reichenau) arc northeast from Hungary and north along the coast from Bulgaria. With just a sliver of territory separating my two pincers, it takes several abortive attacks before I succeed in closing the ring, and the Russkies trapped inside start to take heavy casualties as their supplies run short.

And, just at the moment of triumph, the allies (France, Belgium, Poland, Holland, Britain and the Dominions) enter the war against me, diverting crucial feldgrau reserves that were en route to contain the Romanian pocket. The French, Belgians and Dutch each launch a major attack on those reserves along my thinly held western border, and are barely repulsed. I push into Danzig and Poznan with small forces, taking heavy casualties as I attack with 1:2 or 1:3 odds, but succeeding in knocking the Poles off balance for the moment. As I write, I'm waiting to see if a Rommel-led counterattack will succeed in pushing into central Holland.

At the same time as the Allies intervened, FFox's reserves started to appear on the edge of the pocket, frantically punching again and again in often suicidal attacks to try to break through my defences along the Carpathian mountains and relieve Zhukov. Immense casualties. But eventually, with an army of 15 tank divisions and 20 infantry in a single province, he pulls a repeat of the "real" Stalingrad by pushing through at Constanta, which is mostly defended by weaker axis units and only a token German force under Kesselring. This turns the front line into mush.

Chaos ensues. Furious fighting in Piatra, Bucharest and Ploesti as units struggled to encircle and counter-encircle in the hope of recreating a front line. All in all, I think we both chewed up a total of 40 divisions in that theatre in four months of play, not including losses to our satellites of perhaps 20-25 divisions and untold casualties in still-intact formations. At present, on my side, my Panzer IV-equipped divisions are, um, how do you say, "redeploying" to safer positions, out of the reach of the resurgent commie counteroffensive...

Needless to say, it doesn't get better than this! But a kick-ass game like this would be even better with a third or fourth human... an absolutely great system, and the AI isn't bad, even if it isn't human.

Takers, anyone?

Just bought the game today.

When I looked through the manual,I was (and still am) amazed by the many opportunities in war, diplomacy, economy, interior politics.
But the German translation is really bad and it sounds completely stupid sometimes;in the manual there are even parts not translated at all.

Tried the 'Quickstart' the Manual recommends, but it completely failed and the Allies were after 3 months in Cologne,Freiburg,Saarbrücken,Wilhelmshaven.
Then began a game as National China.Within 8 months I had annexed Red China,Sinkiang and Tibet.Guess now I have to prepare for the Japanese invasion.

Richard - Keep a seat warm :D. You've convinced me to buy as soon as I scrounge up the pennies scattered around my house, or at least, save up enough money.

*Noldodan begins drooling...* But seriously, I'm taking your idea, Toasty. (Hope you don't mind...)

I am planing to buy it in the near future(say in the next day or so) and would like to see more of the type of posts as done by Richard III so I can get a better idea of the game

Just bought it yesterday. All I can say is why didn't I notice this game before!?!?!? It is one of the best games I have played in a while. I am still getting the hang of it, but by the end of this week, I'll be ready to play with RIII, Kenelly, Toasty, Fox, etc., so watch out! ;)

Revolutionary- Here is my first post of an HoI story, however, it is considerably shorter than RIII's, as it covers only a little less than a year in the game.

---------------------------------------------------

I decided to take a break from the superpowers and play as Brazil against the AI. My first move was to create more army units, but that was going to take a few months, so in the meantime, I launched my Infantry and Cavalry against the Uruguayans, who had one Infantry Corps. The Uruguayans were not an Allied nation, but the Allies had promised support, so the British, French, and a few others declared war on me. I was able to conquer the Uruguayans, while having war redeclared on me after I sued for peace with the allies, a gain for me, since it didn't involve making epace with or returning lands to Uruguay. The French took Recife and the British and Belgians destroyed my navy, however, I was able to get Recife back and build up a new fleet.

After extensive diplomatic efforts, I was able to join the Allies, who were fighting the Germans. The Germans had overrun Luxembourg and destroyed their army and had overrun Holland, but their army was given to Belgium until the war ends. I asked for and received command of all Belgian units, and since Belgium also controlled Holland's army, I was essentially in command of the Northern part of the western front, which is at a stalemate, with attacks and counter attacks. However, the German subs have been contained, allowing for reinforcements from Britain and the Brazilian homeland. Also, I have received technological gifts from various allied nations.

----------------------------------------,

Also, I am trying to revive interest in this thread as I would like to hear your stories and also play a game with someone from CFC

I have bought it too, haven't been able to play it much though... But so complicated... or diffucult is perhaps the word...

I have tried as Germany two times, both times, been run over by the french... And not beein able to take Poland.

Tried as Argentina once, and that wen't ok so far, I have taken Uruguay and Chile, the french declared war on me however, but haven't sent an invasion troops...

Don't think I will be involved in multiplayer quite yet, I will just be slaughtered....

I think playing as Tannu Tuva is the hardest in the game. :D

Played as Argentina and it went really good. When I marched into Uruguay,Allies declared war on me and for a short time captured Buenos Aires, but after annexing Uruguay, they agreed to peace. When I invaded Paraguay, the same thing happened, but somehow I was able to capture the British Home Fleet sent to Rio de la Plata,2 Carriers, several battleships...At this point I had more BBs than the Brits!Luckily for me the war in Europe soon broke out,and I immediately joined the Allies.
After it I worked up north,Chile,Peru,Bolivia,Ecuador,Colombia all fell into my hands. Then turned to C.America and conquered all the nations there for Britain+Cuba for me.
War in Europe+Africa was not going well for us,with Greece,Portugal and Yugoslavia on the Axis side and Britain German-occupied.In Africa the Portuguese even annexed South Africa and all of Egypt and Near East fell to the Italians.
But then Soviets began marching,at first it was a stalemate, but in 1943 they advanced quickly and in 1945 all the continent except for Romania,Spain,Portugal,Switzerland,Scandinavia and-good for them-the Baltics was Soviet, plus 1/3 of Africa. When the Axis defences broke down,I turned to Europe, and took Rhodos,Dodekanes,Crete,Sardinia;in Africa big parts of Namibia,S.Africa,Angola,Mozambique.I think you can really call this Greater Argentina.
I think my next step will be transporting troops to the West Pacific to take some lands from Japanese and Siamese, who have taken everything from Pakistan to Tokyo and Kuriles to New Guinea.

This may be the best Strategy game I've played (Civ included), despite a few nuisances.
I have found that it tends to be most fun when playing as a major power which is really involved (ie. Germany, Britain, Soviet Union, etc. as opposed to China, Argentina, Mexico, etc.). Still fun to take up a small country on occasion, though.

I'm starting a game as the USA, so I'll keep you guys posted. Also, Kenelley, care to play sometime?

I think they made the game too easy. Playing as Germany on the medium difficulty level, I've taken all of Europe (minus Russia & Portugal), Britain included, and Turkey, and its only 1941! Hopefully, the toughest level IS difficult.

I am playing as Italy, and I have taken Ethiopia, Yugoslavia, Albania, and Greece in a little over a year. I am just waiting for that inevitable German-Allied War now.

Anyone know if a demos available anywhere? This game sounds interesting and fun, cept I can't afford any new games for a while. :(
