Helicopter Transports

I see a new world of war where helo rushes are order of the day! Get those fighters on CAP!

Helocopters should be able to move arty as well (Did in Nam)

JC! you ARE a helicopter!
Can you carry stuff?

Seriously! can anyone confirm this CIV2 info?

No, helicopters CAN NOT carry troops in civ2

I knew Fx had made an error!
no offence!:)

I have had Foot troops and Helos stacked in countless campaigns and also read the manual daily. I have never seen this air-transport in CIV2.

You cant get a ground domain unit into an air unit!
not even a CIV2 hybrid like the helo...

Well, we all know at least that there WILL be airdrop missions in this game. But i dont think it will be the way you guys are assuming.. They already sort of implied that air unit movementw ould be somewhat automated and they wont be the super fast land/sea units that they virtually were in civ 2. I think all we have to do is choose a place to drop troops and then the helicopter carries the orders out in its own way. I'm sure they have a defensive value of some sort to fend off enemy fighters that might be crawling around...

*edited due to misinformation*

well, in any case...we don't know for SURE that the airbases are in...we also don't know for SURE that the helicopters have attack values...in fact, all i see in the tech tree is the sea-king helicopter, which is just troop transport heli...

it was radio in civ2 which allowed for airbases and airports...right?
I only see airport in the radio tech...there is a crossed out picture in the flight tech, but somehow i doubt that the pic is for airbase...

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THE TECH TREE IS FROM THE FINAL BUILD OF THE GAME? OR IS IT FROM ONE OF THE PROTOTYPE VERSION?? this would help answer a lot of questions....

Helicopters can be loaded up like naval transports and then airdrop their units to any tile within their operational range. As the Eras advance, strategic resources become increasingly necessary, but with toys like these to play with, it's more than worth the trouble to secure them.

Seems to me they function pretty much as all-purpose air transports. Hopefully this is flagbased, so that one can create landbased units (trucks) with the editor, capable of the same, but with terrain penalties.

Anyway, I suggest "operational range" to mean something like movement points, so that moving the chopper will decrease the operational range for these "airdrops".

Good thing about the pirate ships, but hey! -There's no caravans! So what are they good for? Naval blockading? That doesn't sound like a true buccaneer to me! Why would a pirate ever take on a fully loaded warship? Answer : he wouldn't, he'd go for the trade vessels. Of which there are none. So what's the use for the privateer?

if i remember correctly, i think i read somewhere that there will be both attack and transports helicopters. but maybe im wrong...

They'll be quite effective against transports, I would think. With privateers guarding your coasts, you don't have to worry about transports full of units steaming just outside your borders.

I think the pirate vessel is a great idea. In the original Civ 2 before patches it was possible to attack ships at sea without political problems. one of the patches screwed up that tactic.

As for helo lifts that is great to have 2 foot soldiers, but I remember reading from the info center "Airdrop mission (Airlifts a single ground unit to another location)"
Is it me or is this dis-proportioned?
A C-5 Galaxy can carry 1 Marine and a Huey can carry 2?

Maybe a mis-print.

ONLY 5 MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!

But not very historical is it, to have pirates "guarding" your coasts? I sincerely hope privateers have some means of looting trade routes, otherwise this game is really off track history-wise in this regard.

Maybe the Air Drop can be any unit (like armor), whereas helo can only drop infantry. That would explain a bit.
