I have civ goty and when ever I get around to about the modern age, and try to save, civ crashes and erases the entire save, leaving me to start over again. Any ideas?
thanks.
How much spare disk space do you have? How much memory? What CPU? What OS?
It sounds like you don't have autosave turned on, otherwise you could go back the last autosave instead of restarting from scratch. Is that because you don't have enough disk space? If so that could be why your save attempt is crashing.
During a save sequence the game has to:
1 - save a temporary uncompressed copy of the data on disk - like an autosave
2 - create a compressed version in memory
3 - save the compressed version on disk
4 - erase the temporary uncompressed copy
As the game progresses the memory and disk space required for these actions gets bigger.
If it doesn't have enough disk or memory resources to do all these things you may find a partial or complete temporary save from step 1 in your Civ3/Saves folder called save.tmp. You could try renaming it to 'save.SAV' and see if it will open.
Is there an error message? What's your computer specs (Harddrive space, memory size)? Maybe you might need to delete some files if your harddrive is full.
the only error message I get is when I try to load the game again and that's the invaild save message.
I'm using osx (the newest version I believe) I'm using an imac and I have about 200mb to 400mb on my comp
You haven't indicated whether you have any disk capacity issues. An invalid save message probably means the save was corrupted during the crash. Have you looked at the Crash Recorder in /Applications/Console? You'll probably have some crash reports for Civ III. Post one and we'll see if we can decipher it.
Moderator Action: I'm moving this back to the Mac forum - lost track of it over here.
na I dont have any, I didnt report them, anyways I solved my problemn by having multiple saves of the same game, and its working, I thnk I have a disk capacity issure most likelybut I'm getting better thanks anyways
I believe disk space is probably the problem. Even though irishlamma has 200 to 400 MB of space free I think a large junk of that is used by the virtual memory. My suggestion would be try getting to 1 or 2 GB free and see if the problem persists.
