I tried posting this on the general discussion forum, and got absolutely zero response. So, I'm sorry if this is being incorrectly posted.

I'm thinking about starting my first SG game. I'm still trying to learn all the intricacies of the game, and I think starting my own would be a great way to pick the brains of some of ya out there that have a way better grasp of what I should be strategizing when I play. However, I need some general help in how to get a good game started. I'm just looking to start a regular game, no weird rules like "We have to found Christianity," or "gotta have 50K in the coffers by 1800AD." Just a regular BTS game that'll help me understand how to roll a little better with the normal punches.

Questions I have:

1. Where should I post the advertisement for the game (I know in the SG forum, but should I post in that first thread, or start a completely new one with the ad)?
2. How do ya make those pretty screen shots so the team can follow along?
3. What's this 24/48 rule mean?
4. Are there any stronger players out there that would want to join a game that would mostly be for the purpose of strengthening my understanding of the overall concepts, instead of creating some clever thematic type of game?
5. Are there any other tidbits of knowledge I should know before I start a start?

Thanks.

1) start the game. then post in the SG thread that's stickied at the top of the forum

2) i use photobucket, some use imageshack. crop/resize your photos to 800x1100(?) so that people can see them w/o scrolling.

3) it means you 24 hours to pick up the save if its your turn, then 48 hours to play and post your report. otherwise, you're skipped.
4) I wouldn't join, but I would lurk and help out.
5) don't feel bad if no one joins up right away. it seems the boards are a little slow right now. join another new one if you need to. otherwise, i'd reserve you a spot in PH19: It's Only Prince!

1. Advertise your game in the sticky and post the actual game and details in this forum (start your own thread)

2. For the photos most people use photobucket which is free. You will also want some photo editing software such as Photoshop ($$$) or Gimp (free :D)

3. When its your turn you say "Got it" within 24 hours and play your set within 48 hours of posting the "Got it".

4. Right now the SG forums seem a little slow but it might pick up soon with the seasons changing.

5. You can kiss your life as you know it good-bye! ;)

5. Don't let pholkhero build your start or you'll accidentally be in Always War.

Welcome to SGs, Mr. AsItSeems. As Pholk says, if no one signs up, it's probably nothing against you. Joining a game might be easier.

It might be useful if you decide on some basics such as difficulty level, number of players, maybe suggest map type, game speed and possible leader as starting point for negotiation.

I haven´t played civ for a couple of months so I´m rustier than the titanic but I´ll sign up if you´ll have me. I´m on holiday atm but I´ll be back at my pc in a week or so.

I see Photobucket was suggested for the screenshots, I just have a further question on this - I have been reading through several of the older SG's and quite a few of them are now missing the screenshots with a notice that the picture was removed by Photobucket. Is this common? Do they have a time limit on how long they will host your pictures for free? Do you have to use a third party to attach the pictures, can they not just be attached directly from your computer? (Ok, so maybe it was more than just one further question...)

I don't think there's a time limit but after some time your free account might be full and you would more than likely remove older links. Also, there was a problem a year or so ago that there were many pics removed from threads due to someone hacking this website (if memory serves me correctly). Of course, this is just a theory.
