HELP!!!! (I'm new)

I'm a bit new to this.

I want to play GOTM, but when I try to open the game, it says it's an obsolete file. I assume it's to do with me playing on TOT. Is there anything I can do?

Hi Jayne! We want you to play the GOTM, too .

I'm personally not sure about the obsolete file issue. If someone else does not post with a suggestion in the next day or so, I will locate my old copy of ToT and install it to try and test some things for you.

You might also try and post the issue on the Civ 2 Tech Support Forum here... (there are some people that read Tech Support that do not play GOTMs too often).

Another idea would be to see if a local store carries the CD-only version of Civ 2. In the US, it is common on the CD sale rack with lots of other CD Jewel case-only software. The cost is normally about $9 USD, and you will be able to use you ToT documentation, charts, etc. with the CD-only version of Civ 2 (its actually the "Classic" version 2.42).

You can also upgrade a "Classic" version to the Civ 2 Multiplayer Gold Edition by downloading and applying Cedric Greene's great patch. It is unofficial, but allows you to upgrade for free!!! See the Tech Support site for more info.

Thanks for your advice! I have managed to find an old copy of CivII amongst my other halfs games. It'll do for now, but I miss some of the TOT features! I've managed to load in the GOTM and am having fun playing it. I might also have a look at the Gold update.

The Civ2 GOTM cannot be played with ToT. Sorry!

Since we want as many people to participate as possible, the savegame is in the orginal Civ2 v2.42 . So everyone with Civ2 classic, CiC, Fantastic Worlds and MGE can play the game. Not ToT though.
