Hey all, I had to reformat my harddrive a couple of days ago and when I opened up paint afterwards, it wouldn't let me open gif's anymore. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I guess that when you reinstalled Windows, you lost all of your default settings.
To open a .gif with paint, right click on the files icon, select 'open with' from the menu, and choose paint. From memory, there's a box at the bottom of the open with menu that lets you set a particular program as the default for opening that type of file.
Case: for what I asked you answered correctly, but I asked the wrong question. I meant I can't save a file as a gif in paint and I would like to fix that.
I didn't think that paint allowed for the creation of new gifs
I save things as gifs by copying and pasting the bitmap version onto an exhisting .gif, and then saving it as a new .gif file (it's cumbersome, but it works...)
That's what I thought too! Unless Microsoft issued an upgraded version of Paint that could handle GIF's that you (ANZAC) installed as an update. Or maybe we're not talking about MS Paint?
