bad news guys I dont' have any iron. I am behind in the tech race. I also plan to build a milatary. plus I can't trade anything untill I can travel the ocean.
I would suggest you play it through to the end.
Can I ask what difficulty this is? Which Civ build? map size?
My very first C3C game was nearly an identical start to yours. Also Japan, I played a pangea map and somehow got stuck in a large continent sized island. Didn't have iron either
The egyptians were also in an island-continent of their own, and through wars, I managed to steal their oil and rubber supplies.
I would make a few notes for you once you can start trading:
1) From the look of your island, you're likely to have a source of oil so you're relatively safe there. But you need to secure Iron ASAP and start looking for terrain that might support rubber (jungles). Island starts are always dangeous when it comes to resource access, since you're options will be extremely limited.
2) I suggest you import iron from someone, build up an army and secure a source of iron for yourself on the main continent
3) secondary target, in addition to iron, would be to find a Civ where they have some surplus luxuries (ie: 2 or more of furs) This will be good for you down the road. If you can't manage to secure any number of strategic resources, like saltpeter, coal, or rubber, having luxuries other civs need can lower your cost and allow you to trade for these resources to buy you time before you can find a way to secure them for yourselves.
I agree with the assesment that this looks pretty grim, but I think it will be a good learning experience to play it through. There's a lot of fun being a weak civ in this game. You get bullied around but it builds character.
p.s. post a save ?
