Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some advice on how to better complete domination victories. I have been playing with Germany but am running into some major hassles that ultimately result in my demise.

1.) What is your strategy for early game? Usually I settle immedately and start a scout right away, while scouting around with my warrior until scout is finished. Once scout is finished, I send both warrior and scout out together looking for barb camps and ruins, while building a monument and than a worker.

Issue I'm running into is that I don't even seem to be in a position to start waging war until close to turn 100. Is that about normal?

2.) Who are your first targets? Are you going after other Civs settling near you, or trying to steal workers from CSs and conquering them?

3.) Once I go to war with another Civ that is encroaching in my area, it seems that all other Civs become guarded toward me, and I take a serious diplo hit becasue I can't have decent relations with other Civs. This is particularly difficult when I have no sources of iron becasue I'm relying on trading for it form other Civs who just rip me off due to poor relations.

What is the general strategy for a German domination?
How soon are you waging war and what tactics are you using?
Should I be trying to get horses and archers right away?
What is the overall teching strategy for a war-raging civ?
How do you develop relations without being seen as a warmonger?
What is the strategy around CSs?

Thanks so much!

Thanks so much!

If am playing with germany I usaly build a warrior right ahead to get the most out of my unique ability you should do this tho after that a momument or scout, other warrior its up to you what the situation is... After that worker(by the time I have the technology to imporve everything luxury items and mines maybe even stone)

2) Who are your first targets? Are you going after other Civs settling near you, or trying to steal workers from CSs and conquering them?

You first targets are you're neigbhours simple as that.... You capture theri cities to get more territory and more luxury resources/gold...

YOu first war should be with iron(wich you can trade usally everyone is friendly in the beginning)

you should not get a diplomatic hit if you dont completly kill the civilization off .. So try to pick the neigbour of you who has been hated the most by all people look at the denounciations and decleration of friendship.. You"re target should have no or less friends and a lot of denounciations...

When you Have won you're second war you should probably have some iron from his territory..

4 What is the general strategy for a German domination?
Atack your neigbour early with your bonusses from barbarians or use it as a defence/ USe landskneghts in the medieval to kill them by numbers even if you dont have iron

5 How soon are you waging war and what tactics are you using?
Usally I start in the medieval era BUt i could start in the classic era If i have iron and maybe horses and I have enoug luxury resources depends on how quiqly I expand and so on... Depends on situation..

6 Should I be trying to get horses and archers right away?
yeah sure You can easy win a war go in the honor policy to get the great general and stack it with you're horses and see how easy it is to take cities :) . IF you are in a situation without iron depends on situation

7 What is the overall teching strategy for a war-raging civ?
OVeral military technology and happiness buildings and wonders that give happiness dont forget about the happiness wonders they help a lot... Build hagia sophia and Use great engineer from it to build notre dam so you get some extra happiness....

8 How do you develop relations without being seen as a warmonger?
Search for warmonger friends look for friends who are killing other civs olso like montezuma and so on they usally will like you because you are kicking people in the head wierd people...

9 What is the strategy around CSs?
Only conquer them if you really need the happiness resources but you dont have the money but is a exeption mainly you just should buy their influence becuase this will give you extra happiness(the luxury resources they give you)

I am not a expert But this is how I play in my domination games at king

Side tip you dont need every city From you"re opponent only the cities wich gives you new luxury resources all the others you can burn or give away...

side tips :

After you first war you should lay low a bit So you can trade with other civilizations and get friends with city state and improve you're cities then decide when to wage war again but you need a lot of happiness and military because you are going to wage war against a lot

Note that you dont need to control the capital to get the domination victory If the original owner dont control his original capital then its ok... SO sell those capitals that provide luxury items you already have so you dont lose happiness and you can keep conquering(same with cities) make sure you got open borders

You are germany So use panzers blitskrieg !!!!!!!!!! So make sure you got oil... IF the game hasn't finished in the industrial era wich is usally for domination victories on large maps

Well, some advices:

- Don't make friend declarations with neighbours. They will provide you
- don't exterminate any civilization, that gives you great penalties.
- Think carefully whenever to Raze/ Puppet/ Annex a city. It's VERY important, puppeting mostly is a great friend.

What i usually do and it works:

I usually start with the Honor branch + 2 warriors, then monument or worker.
I start conquers with iron units, along with some horsemen and archers if available, I don't use much the siegue units.

Hope it helps.

What difficulty, map, and map size are you playing on? Many strategies are map-dependent, and a strategy that works on lower difficulties may not work on higher ones.

As Germany, it's really important to explore and take out barb camps to build an early army. A couple warriors are usually sufficient for each camp, and once you have some brutes it becomes much easier. You should be able to get a sizeable military up pretty quickly.

Also, if you have no iron, I would suggest getting it in another way rather than trading with another AI for it. If you declare war on that AI or the deal runs its course, you will lose that iron and your units which require iron will have a 50% combat penalty. You'd be better off allying with a CS that has iron, or settling/conquering it yourself.

It's also really difficult to keep friendly relations while going for a domination victory, so it's probably easier to just conquer other civs and ignore diplomacy for the most part.

What I tend to do is build:
-scout (or two)
-monument
-five warriors
-an archer or two.

At some point during this building phase, I'll rush buy a worker to help the city grow/gain more hammers.

By the time the archer is ready, you should have some good knowledge of your neighbouring civ. March your army over there and take his city. Usually, around the time of his city falls, I'll finish my Iron Working and hopefully have some in my territory.

I then upgrade my warriors to swordsman and possibly buy a catapult and walk over to the next civ, whose city will fall quicker than the first. Everyone will starts hating me now, so it's time to kill them all.

If I'm lucky, I can upgrade to longswords before the next push and hopefully have a great general too. I then march towards the 3rd civ, with my veteran longswords/siege weapons and the game is pretty much over at this point. The next 100 turns or so is simply a moping up process.

The largest hurdle to overcome is happiness, so you'll need to choose your policies wisely. I suggest the Honor and Piety trees, grabbing the one that give happiness for defensive and culture buildings.

Note, I'm usually playing on:

Difficulty: Emperor/Immortal
Map size: small
Map: Pangea

One thing many beginners do that is a major mistake is neglecting research.
If you are first in research, it is not hard to be first in military.
