At first my computer wouldn't load past the "Done" screen when starting up Civ IV. So I reinstalled my ATI Radeon 9000 drivers (laptop) and now I get past the "Done" screen but I don't get the firaxis or 2kgames videos or the CIV IV Game Menu -- just the sound to it all and the giant globe in the background.
This is after my desktop (which is older) resulted in black maps and see-through advisors rendering the game virtually unplayable.
Ok, i managed to solve this problem for me. I just installed the latest graphic card drivers and it went well
Though i do experience enormous loading times anyway...

I had the same problem. Updating my graphics driver solved the missing menu problem. However the game still randomly crashes for me. Sometimes it crashes on the first move, other times I can play for an hour.
I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 and the ATI 5.10 catalyst will not install because apparently it only works for 9550 or something like that (from other threads). I get a "severe error video INF driver not found" message or something like that....
My card meets the requirements of Civ IV but I can't update the drivers anymore past 6.14, etc. Any ideas??? Sigh. I was waiting breathlessly for this game and have spent so much time trying to play and still can't! Argh!
