There's a NoCD fix that you can download from www.gamecopyworld.com but when I last looked it was only for unpatched games.
Being one of those wierdos that doesn't like to have his precious CDs in the drive all the time, I've held off applying the Civ3 patch until GameCopyWorld have one for the patched version. (And I believe that the effects of the patch only fully cut in when you start a new game anyway.
I may have to reconsider on my next restart, as this desire to keep my CDs immaculate is getting a little obsessive! :crazyeyes

Make your friend pay for the cost of replacement. If you contact Infogrames I bet you will be able to send the CD in and they will send you a new one for a modest fee (probably around 10$ USD plus S+H, plus your costs for S+H the broken CD). Get that money from your friend if you are hard up for money or chalk it up to a friends mistake and pay for it yourself and don't put the damn thing on the ground anymore!
My CDs are al one piles on my tower which is on the low section of my desk. They get brushed off by my feet a lot and he happen to step on it and crack it in two. This is not uncommon for me. I am a messy person. I have trash everywhere.
As to the people thinking I am lying I say this. If I was looking for a crack I think a pirated copy of Civ would already have one. I am not lying.
