I just got Civ 4 for Christmas and I really want to start playing but when I tried to run it I got the 'Failed to Initialize Renderer - Check DirectX Version and Graphics Settings' message.
I went to the support page at http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_ati.htm and very carefully followed their instructions about uninstalling and reinstalling the game and updating my videodrivers (I have a Radeon 9600 series videocard) but that didn't fix the problem. I then tried to follow their secondary solution about Unpacking the Art Pack File, but unfortunately, whenever I run that PakBuild program it freezes while unpacking the file and I have to go to my task manager to close it.
Any suggestions on how to get the PakBuild program to unpack the art file OR any alternate solutions to the error message problem OR even an e-mail address that I can use to send my problem to 2kgames would be most appreciated. Thanks a ton.
