When I try to install C3C, I get the following error message:

"Error 1305. Error reading from C:\Program Files\Atari\Civilization 3 Complete\Conquests\Conquests\Age of Discovery\Art\Advisors\science_industrial.pcx. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

The file exists right where it's supposed to be, but for some reason the game won't detect it. What can I do?

Reinstall wont work
I dont even know where to look for the file... when I looked in disk 3 data3.cab all i found was unintelligible strings of code(which were file names I assume)

and YES I do have the original disks disk 3 is just scratched to hell

He asked helped on CFC chatroom, based on that info I got, I think his disc3 is scratched.

Solution that *might* work with damaged disk, would be:
1) Create a virtual image of your disc (clone disk on your harddrive)
2) Try running program like daemon tools to install the game from that virtual image.

I have never tried this with civ, but with Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind it worked.(My disc 3 was too scratched(just one *TINY* scratch was visible :( ).)

(Creating *iso backup if you have original disc and you use it for PERSONAL use(eg as backup), is allowed AFAIK)

Second option: Try installing while durning all firewalls and protection and "search fast programs" off.

Third: Buy the game again (I know it sucks to pay 2x)

Hope any of these works.

There is probably someplace you can go to get the disc resurfaced. There are several stores in my area that do it and only charge a couple of bucks for it.

And while creating an .iso may be technically legal, usually it's blocked by the copy protection. And if you can't read the disc in the first place, it wouldn't matter anyways. Cracking that copy protection could be tough, and we certainly wouldn't allow discussion of how to do so here.

Creating an iso copy CAN matter, at least for me and my elder scroll CD it DID matter - game refuses to install from CD, saying *cab error, from *iso file, it installs AND game is playable (no crashes/errors...

But if you're reading the disc to install it, and reading from the disc to make an .iso, then you're pretty much doing the same thing. Yes, the end result is different, but what the drive is doing is exactly the same: Reading the disc.

Now, maybe it worked for you, and I'm not saying it didn't. But I am suggesting that perhaps you're the exception, not the rule....
