Hi guys,

It says that they give a total of 20xp to all units in the same square but I don't see that benefit?

When I attached this warlord to one of my Elephants all it did was give it some xp and it definitely was not 20 xp.

What am I missing? How can I best utilize warlords.

thanks!

As far as I know, the experience is spread throughout the stack. If your elephant didn't get 20 exp it must have been spread around, your math may be off.

As for what having a warlord attached does, basically it opens up the unit to receive special combat promotions that cannot be earned otherwise. These include Medic 3, an insanely powerful medic (a must-have for any army!), Commando (get double experience) and Morale (extra movement point). Maybe a few more but those are the main worthwhile ones I've found.

Also when I use the GG, I like to single the unit out so all the 20 exp goes right into him. Not sure if that's the best strategy but its what I like to do.

And remember that generals can be merged into cities or build military acadamies. These may be more useful than playing around with powerful units, at least after your super medic.

It also helps to give a unit the experience points if you want to build West Point but don't already have a level 6 promoted unit, as is the requirement to build that Wonder.

For some reason it doesn't give me the option to use the warlord to build an academy of any sort. Do you need a certain tech to be able to do this?

You need military science.

I usually move the warlord candidate out of city then attach the general unit and he gets 20xp alone.

Or Education if you're using the Warlords expansion pack (rather than Beyond the Sword).

Also I looked it up, and warlords also get the following unique promotions:

- Combat 6 (+25% strength)
- Medic 3 (+15% heal nearby units)
- Tactics (+30% withdrawl chance)
- Commando (+100% combat experience)
- Morale (+1 movement point)

Leadership (+100%xp) not commando. Commando can be used by all units and it lets that unit use enemy roads/railroads.

Also, if you want the unit to get 20xp, then just don't have any other units in the stack when you use it.
