1) In Civ 2, the computer will tell you when an opponent is starting a wonder, and it gives you another warning when they are about to complete it. Civ 3 does not have this. Is there any way to know what wonders they are building and when they will be done?

2) Ditto for space race. How do I know if another civ is working on space race or if they are close to completing it?

3) "Domination" victory. How do I know what my land % and population % are, and how that compares to other civs?

4) I know the sun indicator in the lower right panel shows that global warming is coming. How do you make the sun go away? I cleaned up all the pollution and the sun was still there and not changing at all, even 500 years later aftr the pollution was gone.

5) Global warming in general is a pain in butt because the AI civs dont give a damn about it. They dont clean up their pollution and the only way to prevent warming is for me to send my own workers to clean it up. Is there a way to make them more environmentally friendly?

6) I like to use the rules editor and make my own scenarios. I changed the buildings so that instead of generating pollution, that some buildings create NEGATIVE pollution (i.e. recycling center produces -5 pollution). But yet I find that this doesnt work to eliminate pollution and my cities still produce those little hazard symbols.

In general, I am very disappointed because it feels like I am working in the dark with no knowledge of what the other civs are doing. Do I have to spend thousands of coins for spies to figure all this crap out or what?

It does, but I think it is an option in the preference and or you need an embassy. In any event you can use F7 to see what wonders are underway and by whom.

"2) Ditto for space race. How do I know if another civ is working on space race or if they are close to completing it?"

F10 give the status for the SS and you need spies to know about the parts.

"3) "Domination" victory. How do I know what my land % and population % are, and how that compares to other civs?"

The F8 screen show your percentage and the top civs.

Edit that is only for C3C version, get CRPsuite.

"4) I know the sun indicator in the lower right panel shows that global warming is coming. How do you make the sun go away? I cleaned up all the pollution and the sun was still there and not changing at all, even 500 years later aftr the pollution was gone."

Pollution on tiles is not a cause of global warming, it is an indication. You have to build the two structure to reduce pollution. You can sell of polluting structures and not build hospitals (pop is a cause).

This only effects you impact, not the AI's. They will do next to noting, so th best way it to kill them. Raze any cities with hospitals.

"5) Global warming in general is a pain in butt because the AI civs dont give a damn about it. They dont clean up their pollution and the only way to prevent warming is for me to send my own workers to clean it up. Is there a way to make them more environmentally friendly?"

Kill them

See above

No just play endless games and then you will know what the civs are doing.

That's not exactly accurate.

The F7 screen will show you whomever is building a wonder, regardless of whether you have contact with said civ or not.

You also get notification when a wonder is completed by a civ that you don't have contact with.

Pollution on the ground is not the source of global warming. You are wasting your time trying to clean up the AI's pollution.

The pollution symbols in the city display are a direct result of the buildings you have and any population over 12. One symbol represents 1% chance of pollution appearing in that city radius each turn. The symbols are the cause of global warming and pollution. Pollution is NOT related to shield production.

For example: a factory ALWAYS produces 2 icons no matter how much extra production you get.

The game may not be able to accept negative pollution symbols.

That's not true. Quite often I've been beaten to a wonder by some other civ and I had no inkling they were building it until it was completed, even though I had checked the F7 screen.

Hmm. I think F7 shows you are wonders built regardless of if you know the civs, while it only shows ones being worked on by civs you know. Does that makes sense? It sounds kind of logical too I guess. Otherwise it would be very confusing when you try to build the GL or something and it won't let you for an unknown reason.

F7 will only show wonders being built by civs you have contact with.

If you want to see how another civ is progressing with their wonder production, use the espionage screen to investigate the city, that's what it's there for, it isn't particularly expensive. If you are that worried about the cost, save, do the mission, and reload. Frankly the peace of mind you get from knowing your position should be worth the cost though.

The sun symbol is a representation of the total number of pollution symbols in all cities rather than the number of actual polluted tiles.

IIRC Pollution from a city depends on the amount of shield production in a city, population over 12, and bonuses for certain improvements. A mass transit reduces population pollution to 1%, recycling centre reduces production pollution to 1%. Thus a city with both structures has a 2% chance of suffering pollution per turn. bear in mind that applying 8 workers for a turn will clear up a polluted square. That means just 8 workers can clear up the pollution from 50 cities with RC & MT improvements, at the end of the game. Regardless of how large your population or what improvements/production you have.

The only way to deal with the AI pollution is the advice already given. Kill them.

I repeat myself... Pollution in civ3 is not tied in any way to shield production. It is the improvements that have a set # of pollution icons tied to them. A factory ALWAYS produced 2 pollution icons no matter how many shields the city is producing. An airport is always 1, Iron Works always 4, Coal plant 2, etc.

I detest making my workers chase after pollution. When they come out with Civ IV, I most sincerely hope that they get rid of pollution entirely. If not, they could at least provide a wonder that would deal with it permanently...something like The Great Mass Recycler which would teleport all pollution directly to Alpha Centuri. :D

I don’t mind having my workers clean up pollution. By the time pollution starts to become a problem, I have pretty much done everything with my workers I plan on doing.

F7 will tell you what wonders are being worked on. For how close they are, spend money to investigate the city via the espionage screen

2) Ditto for space race. How do I know if another civ is working on space race or if they are close to completing it?
F10. It won't tell you about the others if you don't have a spy in their civs, however.

3) "Domination" victory. How do I know what my land % and population % are, and how that compares to other civs?
F8 in Conquests will tell you. I don't know about vanilla Civ3.

4) I know the sun indicator in the lower right panel shows that global warming is coming. How do you make the sun go away? I cleaned up all the pollution and the sun was still there and not changing at all, even 500 years later aftr the pollution was gone.
You could always dismantle your factories, but why would you want to?

5) Global warming in general is a pain in butt because the AI civs dont give a damn about it. They dont clean up their pollution and the only way to prevent warming is for me to send my own workers to clean it up. Is there a way to make them more environmentally friendly?
I'll agree about global warming being a PITA. Can't do anything about the AI. This is why you NEVER automate workers.

6) I like to use the rules editor and make my own scenarios. I changed the buildings so that instead of generating pollution, that some buildings create NEGATIVE pollution (i.e. recycling center produces -5 pollution). Some pollution is also based on the population of your cities

In general, I am very disappointed because it feels like I am working in the dark with no knowledge of what the other civs are doing. Do I have to spend thousands of coins for spies to figure all this crap out or what?

There is a utility called mapstats that helps quite a bit. Try downloading that.

Yes, that's how it works.

Not in C3C, you must have contact to get wonders builds and you must have an embassy to get alerts on wars those civs are having, if any.
