help with moving up to prince and higher

i,m a long time player of civ2 but i,m in a rut in the fact i can,t get above warlord. i do great in cheiftan prety good at warlord but prince kicks me all over the map i can,t get a rating above 70% once i got a rating above 90%
but that was a fuilk. pleas help

havoc, you can learn a lot from reading the threads here. Have you tried Elephant's "Tips for New Players", or the War Academy?

And what kind of problems are you having at Prince level ? [combat? tech? growth?] Maybe if you post a .sav from one of your games, someone can take a look, and tell you what's going wrong.

i will do good till i get to the modern age then the ai starts to steal techs and use them to disamate my civ i don,t have proplems growth but defence is always a proplem becuse i,m a prefectist i build and build till i can,t build any more but my miltary always suffers and when the ai gets bomber and howitzers they mop the floor with me

Oh... I don't play the modern age too often, so maybe somebody else can offer advice about that. But

1) As a general rule, you want to stay ahead of the AI in tech, so that you get the bombers and howitzers first.

2) Be the aggressor - take the battle to them!

3) Try some different approaches. For example, after you have 10 or 20 cities, try building Sun Tzu and a mob of 20 Vet Elephants. Then go stomp on the nearest, toughest AI you can find!

Make a plan. If you want to win by conquest, start early. Be prepared to bribe some cities early. If you plan to build a spaceship, then build a super science city(good for war, also) find a nice defensible patch, and build up mgf capability.

I,ve been doing pretty good in my latest attempet at prince my pop. is 34,000,000 in 1899 but when on warlord i,m usely 3 time that many i,ve focus some more on conquest and destoryed 2 out of the 7 ai in the game it,s on a regular map any susgestion would be helpful.

1) Don't forget to read Elephant's "Tips for new players"
2) In the meantime try this for your next game (early game):
- build no improvement at all before 1AD
- build settlers and caravans instead

thanks for the help guys i,m doing a littile better i think i well get better with practice but keep the sugesstions coming if not for me but for other players out there
